was probably written a year or so after the first, and from Rome, where Paul was for a second time a prisoner, and was sent to Timothy by the hands of Tychicus. In it he entreats Timothy to come to him before winter, and to bring Mark with him (comp. Php 2:22). He was anticipating that "the time of his departure was at hand" (2Ti 4:6), and he exhorts his "son Timothy" to all diligence and steadfastness, and to patience under persecution (2Ti 1:6-15), and to a faithful discharge of all the duties of his office (2Ti 4:1-5), with all the solemnity of one who was about to appear before the Judge of quick and dead.

This you know, that all they who are in Asia are turned away from me; of whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes.
I charge you therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be diligent in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. read more. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they draw to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto myths. But you watch in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fully carry out your ministry. For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.
