By faith Abraham, being called to go out into the place which he was to receive for an inheritance, obeyed and went out, not knowing whither he went. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the joint heirs of the same promise. By faith Sarah also herself received power to conceive seed, even when she was past age, because she accounted him faithful who had promised. Therefore there sprang even from one, and him as it were dead, as the stars of heaven for multitude, and as the sand which is on the sea-shore innumerable. All these died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and embraced them, and confest that they were strangers and sojourners on the earth. For they who speak thus, shew plainly, that they seek their own country. And truly if they had been mindful of that from which they came out, they might have had opportunity to return. But they now desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; for he hath prepared a city for them. By faith Abraham, being tried, offered up Isaac, and he that had received the promises, offered up his only begotten son: Of whom it had been said, In Isaac shall thy seed be called: Accounting that God was able even to raise him from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.

But Jesus immediately spake to them, saying, Take courage: it is I: be not afraid. And Peter answering him said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come to thee on the water. And he said, Come. And Peter coming down from the vessel, walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But seeing the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus reaching forth his hand, caught him, and saith to him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? And when they were come into the vessel, the wind ceased. And himself believed, and his whole house.

For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was imputed to him for righteousness. Now to him that worketh, the reward is not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is imputed to him for righteousness.

Romans 8:38-39

Romans 4:1-22

What shall we say then? That our father Abraham hath found according to the flesh? If Abraham was justified by works, he hath whereof to glory: but he hath not in the sight of God. For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was imputed to him for righteousness. read more.
Now to him that worketh, the reward is not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is imputed to him for righteousness. So David also describeth the happiness of the man, to whom God imputeth righteousness without works: Happy are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; Happy is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin. Cometh this happiness then on the circumcision only, or on the uncircumcision also? For we say that faith was imputed to Abraham for righteousness. How was it then imputed? When he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision. And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith, which he had in uncircumcision, that he might be the father of all who believe in uncircumcision, that righteousness may be imputed to them also, And the father of the circumcision, to them who not only are of the circumcision, but also walk in the footsteps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had in uncircumcision. For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham or to his seed by the law, but by the righteousness of faith. For if they who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void, and the promise of no effect. Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression. Therefore it is of faith, that it might be of grace, that the promise might be firm to all the seed; not only to that which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all, (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations) before God in whom he believed, as quickning the dead, and calling the things that are not, as though they were: Who against hope believed in hope, that he should be the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. And not being weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, being about an hundred years old, nor the deadness of Sarah's womb. He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, And being fully assured, that what he had promised, he was able also to perform. And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.

Galatians 3:6-9

As Abraham believed God, and it was imputed to him for righteousness. Know then, that they who are of faith, these are the sons of Abraham. And the scripture foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, declared before the glad tidings to Abraham, In thee shall all the nations be blessed. read more.
So then they who are of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham. For as many as are of the works of the law are under a curse;

Abraham saith to him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham; but if one go to them from the dead, they will repent. Now consider how great this man was, to whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils, And verily they of the sons of Levi, who receive the priesthood, have a commandment (according to the law) to take tithes of the people, that is, of their brethren, tho' they come out of the loins of Abraham. But he whose pedigree is not from them, took tythes of Abraham, and blessed him who had the promises: And without all contradiction, the less is blessed of the greater. And here men that die receive tithes: but there, he of whom it is witnessed, that he liveth. And even Levi, who receiveth tithes, paid tithes (so to speak) thro' Abraham. For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedek met him.
