If they had belonged to us they would certainly have remained with us, but they went out that they might be manifest that they all are not of us.
Do not believe every spirit, beloved, but test the spirits to see whether they are of God; for many false prophets are gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God; every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is from God; and every spirit which confesses him not, is not from God. And this is that spirit of Antichrist of which you have heard that it is coming, and that now it is already in the world.
