Now I am ready to come to you this third time. I will not burden you, for I am not seeking what is yours, but you. For children are not obligated to save up for their parents, but parents for their children.
This is the third time I am coming to you. Every fact must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.
I will come to you after I pass through Macedonia-for I will be traveling through Macedonia- and perhaps I will remain with you, or even spend the winter, that you may send me on my way wherever I go. The judges are to make a careful investigation, and if the witness turns out to be a liar who has falsely accused his brother, you must do to him as he intended to do to his brother. You must purge the evil from you. Then everyone else will hear and be afraid, and they will never again do anything evil like this among you. You must not show pity: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, and foot for foot.
