He said unto them, "Have ye not read what David did, when he was a hungered, and they also which were with him? How he entered into the house of God, and ate the hallowed loaves, which were not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests. read more.
Or have ye not read in the law, how that the priests in the temple break the Sabbath day, and yet are blameless? But I say unto you, that here is one greater than the temple. Wherefore if ye had wist, what this saying meaneth, 'I require mercy and not sacrifice,' ye would never have condemned innocents. For the son of man is Lord even of the Sabbath day." And he departed thence, and went into their synagogue, and behold, there was a man, which had his hand dried up. And they asked him, saying, "Is it lawful to heal upon the Sabbath days?" And he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the highest priest asked him, and said unto him, "Art thou the Christ, the son of the blessed?" And Jesus said, "I am. And ye shall see the son of man sit on the righthand of power, and come in the clouds of heaven." Then the highest priest rent his clothes and said, "What need we any further of witness? Ye have heard the blasphemy, what think ye?" And they all gave sentence that he was worthy of death. And some began to spit at him, and to cover his face, and to beat him with their fists, and to say unto him, "Aread unto us." And the servants buffeted him on the face.
