Nor yet Herod; for I sent you to him; and lo, he hath done nothing worthy of death. read more.
I will therefore chastise and release him. For he was under a necessity of releasing one to them at the feast. And they cried all at once saying, Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas: (Who for an insurrection made in the city, and for murder had been cast into prison.) Pilate desiring to release Jesus, spake again to them. But they cried, saying, Crucify, crucify him. He said to them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise and release him. But they insisted with loud voices, requiring that he should be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed. And Pilate gave sentence, that what they desired should be done. And he released to them him, that for insurrection and murder had been cast into prison, whom they desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.

And the governour said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified. Then Pilate, seeing, that he could prevail nothing, but rather a tumult was made, took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just man: see ye to it. But ye have a custom, that I should release to you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release to you the king of the Jews?

Pilate went out again, and saith to them, Lo, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know, I find no fault in him. Then Jesus came forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe, And he saith to them, Behold the man. But when the chief priests and the officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify, crucify him. Pilate saith to them, Take ye him and crucify him; for I find no fault in him. read more.
The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God. When Pilate heard that saying, he was the more afraid, And returned into the palace and saith to Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer. Then Pilate saith to him, Speakest thou not to me? Knowest thou not, that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee? Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power over me, unless it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me to thee, hath the greater sin. Upon this Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou release this man, thou art not a friend to Cesar. Whosoever maketh himself a king, opposeth Cesar. Pilate hearing this saying, brought Jesus forth, and sat on the judgment seat, in a place called the Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha; (It was then the preparation of the passover, and about the third hour:) And saith to the Jews, Behold your king.
