And as Peter was in the hall below, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest. And seeing Peter warming himself, she looked on him and said, Thou wast also with Jesus of Nazareth. And the maid saw him again, and said to them that stood by, This is one of them. And he denied it again. And a little after, those that stood by, said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them; for thou art a Galilean, and thy speech agreeth thereto. And Peter followed afar off. And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were sat down together, Peter sat down among them. But a certain maid seeing him as he sat by the light, and looking earnestly upon him, said, This man also was with him. But he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.read more.
And after a while another saw him and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not. And about one hour after, another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him, for he is a Galilean. And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou meanest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew. And the Lord turning looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to him, Before cock-crowing, thou wilt deny me thrice. And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.

But Peter stood at the door without: therefore the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out, and spake to her that kept the door, and brought in Peter. Then saith the maid, who kept the door, to Peter, Art not thou also one of this man's disciples? He saith, I am not. And the servants and officers, having made a fire of coals (for it was cold) stood and warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them and warmed himself.

Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They said to him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied and said, I am not. One of the servants of the high priest (being kinsman to him whose ear Peter had cut off) saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him? Peter denied again, and immediately the cock crew.

And he spake a parable to them that were invited, when he marked how they chose the chief seats, saying to them, When thou art invited by any man to a marriage-feast, sit not down in the highest place, lest a more honourable man than thou be invited by him, And he that invited thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place. And then thou shalt begin with shame to take the lowest place. But when thou art invited,read more.
go and sit down in the lowest place, that when he who invited thee cometh, he may say, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have honour in the presence of them that sit at table with thee. For every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled, and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Therefore let him that standeth, take heed, lest he fall.

And he desired Philip to come up, and sit with him. The portion of scripture which he was reading, was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter, and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so he opened not his mouth. In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? For his life is taken from the earth.

Who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God; Yet emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men. And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, yea, the death of the cross.

For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.

The Son of man is come eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a glutton and a wine-bibber, a friend of publicans and sinners; but wisdom is justified by her children.

And his relations hearing of it, came out to lay hold on him; for they said, He is beside himself.

Yet none of you keepeth the law. Why seek ye to kill me? The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil. Who seeketh to kill thee?

Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner, do such miracles?

And all in the synagogue hearing these things, were filled with fury, And rising up, thrust him out of the city, and brought him to the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, to cast him down headlong.

And turning to the woman, he said to Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thy house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath watered my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. Thou gavest me no kiss; but she, from the time I came in, hath not ceased to kiss my feet. Thou didst not anoint my head with oil: but she hath anointed my feet with ointment.

Then the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus, to put him to death, and found none. For many bore false witness against him; but their evidences were not sufficient. And there arose certain, and bore false witness against him,read more.
saying, We heard him say, I will destroy this temple made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands. And neither so was their evidence sufficient. Then the high priest standing up in the midst, asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? What is it which these witness against thee? But he held his peace and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him and said to him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed? And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man, sitting on the right-hand of power, and coming with the clouds of heaven. Then the high priest rent his clothes and saith, What farther need have we of witnesses? Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to deserve death. And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say to him, Prophesy, And the officers smote him with the palms of their hands.

Then the soldiers of the governour, taking Jesus into the common hall, gathered to him the whole troop. And they stripped him and put on him a scarlet robe, And platting a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a cane in his right-hand; and kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews.read more.
And spitting on him, they took the cane and smote him on the head. And after they had mocked him, they stripped him of the robe, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.

Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death, But found none; yea, tho' many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At last came two false witnesses, And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.read more.
And the high priest rising up said to him, Answerest thou nothing? What do these witness against thee? But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answering said to him, I adjure thee by the living God, to tell us, if thou art the Christ, the Son of God? Jesus saith to him, Thou hast said. Moreover I say to you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right-hand of power, and coming upon the clouds of heaven. Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy: what further need have we of witnesses? Behold now ye have heard his blasphemy. What think ye? They answering said, He is guilty of death. Then did they spit in his face and buffet him, and others smote him, Saying, Prophesy to us, thou Christ, who is he that smote thee?

Then the high priest asked Jesus of his disciples and of his doctrine. Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I was continually teaching in the synagogue and in the temple, whither all the Jews resort, and in secret have I said nothing. Why askest thou me? Ask them that heard me, what I said to them: behold, they know what I said.read more.
When he had said thus, one of the officers, who stood by, gave Jesus a blow, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so? Jesus answered, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me? (Now Annas had sent him bound to Caiaphas the high priest.)

Then released he Barabbas to them, and having scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

And Pilate, willing to satisfy the people, released Barabbas to them, and having scourged Jesus, delivered him to be crucified.

And he released to them him, that for insurrection and murder had been cast into prison, whom they desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.

Then delivered he him to them, to be crucified.

And the soldiers led him away into the hall called Pretorium, and call together the whole troop. And they clothe him with purple, and having platted a crown of thorns, put it about his head. And they saluted him, Hail, king of the Jews.read more.
And they smote him on the oead with a cane, and spit upon him, and bowing their knees, did him homage. And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple robe from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.

Then Pilate therefore took Jesus and scourged him. And the soldiers having platted a crown of thorns, put it on his head, and put on him a purple robe, And said, Hail, king of the Jews. And they smote him on the cheeks.

And he questioned him in many words, but he answered him nothing. And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused him. And Herod, having with his men of war set him at nought, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a splendid robe, sent him back to Pilate.

And when they were come to the place, called the place of a scull, there they crucified him, and the two malefactors, one on the right-hand, and one on the left. Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment and cast lots. And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others: let him save himself, if he be the Christ, the chosen of God.read more.
And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar, And saying, If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself. And a superscription also was written over him in Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew letters, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. And one of the malefactors, who were hanging on the cross, reviled him, saying, If thou be the Christ, save thyself and us. But the other answering, rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this person hath done nothing amiss. And he said to Jesus, Lord, remember me, when thou comest in thy kingdom. And Jesus said to him, Verily I say unto thee, To-day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: (for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

For I say to you, That this which is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was numbered with the transgressors.

And coming to a place called Golgotha, that is, the place of a skull, They gave him vinegar mingled with gall to drink, and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink. And they crucified him and parted his garments, casting lots, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and for my vesture they cast lots.read more.
And sitting down, they guarded him there, And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS. Then were two thieves crucified with him, one on the right-hand and one on the left. And they that were passing by reviled him, wagging their heads and saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son God, come down from the cross. In like manner the chief priests also with the scribes and elders mocking him said, He saved others; Cannot he save himself? If he be the king of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. He trusted in God: let him deliver him now if he will have him; for he said, I am the Son of God. And even the robbers that were crucified with him, cast the same reproach upon him.

And they bring him to the place, Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, the place of a skull. And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh; but he received it not. And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take.read more.
And it was the third hour, when they crucified him. And there was an inscription of his written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS. And with him they crucify two thieves, one on his right-hand, and one on his left. And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors. And they that passed by, reviled him, wagging their heads and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, Save thyself, and come down from the cross. In like manner also the chief priests mocking said one to another, with the scribes, He saved others; cannot he save himself? Let the Christ, the king of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe. They also that were crucified with him reviled him.

And they took Jesus and led him away. And he bearing his cross, went forth to the place, called the place of a skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha: Where they crucified him, and two others with him, one on each side, and Jesus in the midst. And Pilate wrote an inscription also, and put it on the cross: and the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.read more.
Many of the Jews read this inscription; for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin. Then said the chief priests to Pilate, Write not, the king of the Jews; but that he said, I am the king of the Jews. Pilate answered, What I have written, I have written. And the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments and made four parts, to every soldier a part, and also his vesture: now the vesture was without seam, woven from the top throughout. They said therefore one to another, Let us not rent it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and cast lots for my vesture. These things therefore the soldiers did.

Yea and all that are resolved to live godly in Christ Jesus, shall suffer persecution.

Happy are ye when men shall revile and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely for my sake.

But beware of men; for they will deliver you to the councils, and scourge you in their synagogues. And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony to them and to the heathens.

Remember the word that I said to you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you: if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.

yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you, will think he doth God service.

And in nothing terrified by your adversaries, which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation. This also is of God. For to you it is given, with regard to Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for him: Having the same conflict, which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.

And ye became imitators of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost.

Partly being made a gazing-stock both by reproaches and afflictions; partly being partakers with them who were so used. For ye sympathized with my bonds, and received with joy the spoiling of your goods, knowing that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.

For this is thank worthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. For what glory is it, if when ye commit faults and are buffeted, ye take it patiently? But if when ye do well and suffer, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. For even hereunto are ye called; for Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that ye might follow his steps:

Fear none of those things which thou art about to suffer: behold the devil is about to cast some of you into prison that ye may be tried, and ye shall have affliction ten days: Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee the crown of life.

in fine apparel, and there come in also a poor man in dirty raiment, And ye look upon him that weareth the fine apparel, and say to him, Sit thou here in a good place, and say to the poor man, Stand thou there, or, Sit thou here under my footstool, Ye distinguish not in yourselves, but are become evil-reasoning judges.

But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother, shall be liable to the judgment; and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be liable to the council; but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be liable to hell-fire.

Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote from thine eye, and behold a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to cast the mote out of thy brother's eye.

Therefore when ye come together into one place, it is not eating the Lord's supper. For in eating every one taketh before another his own supper, and one is hungry, another drinks largely. What! have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or do ye despise the church of God, and shame them that have not? what shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this?
