When I shall send Artemas unto thee or Tychicus, procure to come unto me to Nicopolis; for I have determined to winter there.

What is my strength that I should hope? What is my end that I should prolong my life?

Man certainly has an appointed amount of time upon earth, and his days are like the days of a hireling. As a slave earnestly desires the shade and as a hireling waits for rest from his work, so I am made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me.

And my soul thought it better to be strangled and desired death more than my bones. I loathed life; I do not desire to live for ever; let me alone; for my days are vanity.


For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven,


according to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life or by death. For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain. But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour, yet I do not know what to choose. read more.
For I am in a strait between the two, having a desire to depart and to be with Christ, which is far better:


And death shall be chosen rather than life by all the residue of those that remain of this evil generation, in all the places where I have driven those that remain, said the LORD of the hosts.

And it came to pass, when the sun arose, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah that he fainted and wished in his soul to die and said, It is better for me to die than to live.
