Ye put to shame the counsel of the poor, Because Jehovah is his refuge.

Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.


A man shall be commended according to his wisdom; But he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.

For, I think, God hath set forth us the apostles last of all, as men doomed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, both to angels and men. We are fools for Christ's sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye have glory, but we have dishonor.


There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it. Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man. The words of the wise heard in quiet are better than the cry of him that ruleth among fools. Wisdom is better than weapons of war; but one sinner destroyeth much good.

Or what king, as he goeth to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and take counsel whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand? Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and asketh conditions of peace.

If the iron be blunt, and one do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.

Counsel is mine, and sound knowledge: I am understanding; I have might.

Wisdom is too high for a fool: He openeth not his mouth in the gate.

Wisdom is as good as an inheritance; yea, more excellent is it for them that see the sun. For wisdom is a defence, even as money is a defence; but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom preserveth the life of him that hath it.
