But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men, to edifying, to exhortation, and to comfort. He that speaketh with tongues, profiteth himself: he that prophesieth, edifieth the congregation. I would that ye all spake with tongues: but rather that ye prophesied. For greater is he that prophesieth, than he that speaketh with tongues, except he expound it also, that the congregation may have edifying.


All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient. All things are lawful to me, but all things edify not.

Even as I please all men in all things not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they might be saved.



Therefore write I these things being absent, lest when I am present I should use sharpness according to the power which the Lord hath given me, to edify, and not to destroy.



Let every man please his neighbor unto his wealth and edifying. For Christ pleased not himself: but as it is written, "The rebukes of them which rebuked thee, fell on me."


Again, think ye that we excuse ourselves? We speak in Christ in the sight of God. But we do all things, dearly beloved, for your edifying.
