And whoever will not receive you, nor hear your words, when you go out of that house or that city, shake off the dust from your feet. Verily I say to you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah, in the day of judgment, than for that city. Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be, therefore, wise as serpents, and guileless as doves. read more.
But beware of men: for they will deliver you to the councils, and scourge you in their synagogues; and you will be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles. But when they deliver you up, be not anxious how or what you shall speak; for that which you shall speak shall be given you in that hour: for it is not you that speak, but it is the Spirit of your Father that speaks in you. Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father the child; and children will rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. And you will be hated by all men on my account: but he that endures to the end shall be saved. But when they persecute you in this city, flee into another: for verily I say to you, You will not have made the circuit of the cities of Israel before the Son of man shall come. The disciple is not above his teacher, nor the servant above his master. It is enough for the disciple, that he be as his teacher; and for the servant, that he be as his master. If they call the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more those of his household? Fear them not, therefore; for there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed, nor hidden that shall not be made known. "What I tell you in darkness, speak in the light: and what you hear in the ear, preach on the house-tops. And fear not them that kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul. But rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a far thing? and yet not one of them shall fall upon the ground with out your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore: you are of more value than many sparrows. "Whoever, therefore, will confess me before men, him will I also confess before my Father who is in heaven. But whoever will deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father who is in heaven. Think not that I have come to send peace on the earth. I have not come to send peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man at variance with his father, and the daughter with her mother, and the daughter-in-law with her mother-in-law: and a man's enemies shall be those of his own household. He that loves father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me: and he that loves son or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me: and whoever does not take his cross and fol low after me, is not worthy of me. He that finds his life shall lose it; and he that loses his life for my sake, shall find it. He that receives you, receives me: and he that receives me, receives him that sent me.

For this reason I solemnly affirm to you this day, that I am clean from the blood of all men. For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God.

But if that wicked servant shall say in his heart, My master delays his coming; and shall begin to strike his fellow-servants, and shall eat and drink with the drunken; the master of that servant will come in a day in which he looks not for him, and at an hour which he knows not, read more.
and will cut him in two, and appoint him his part with the hypocrites. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

And he said to him: A certain man made a great supper, and invited many. And he sent his servant at the hour of supper, to say to those who had been invited, Come, for all things are now ready. And they all, with one consent, began to make excuse. The first said to him, I have bought a farm, and I must go and see it; I pray you, have me excused. read more.
And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to try them; I pray you, have me excused. And another said, I have married a wife, and, for this reason, I can not come. And that servant came and told his lord these things. Then the master of the house was angry, and said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor and the maimed, the lame and the blind. And the servant said, Lord, it is done as you commanded, and yet there is room. And the lord said to his servant, Go out into the roads, and among the hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be full. For I say to you, that not one of those men who have been invited, shall taste of my supper.

He said, there fore: A certain nobleman went into a distant country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. And he called his ten servants, and gave them ten pounds, and said to them, Engage in trade till I come. But his citizens hated him, and sent an embassy after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us. read more.
And it came to pass, that, when he had returned, having received the kingdom, he commanded those servants to be called, to whom he had given the money, that he might know what each had gained by trading. And the first came and said: Lord, your pound has gained ten pounds. And he said to him: Well done, good servant; because you have been faithful in a very little, have authority over ten cities. And the second came and said: Lord, your pound has gained five pounds. And he said to him also: And be you over five cities. And another came and said: Lord, behold your pound, which I have kept laid away in a napkin. For I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man; you take up that which you did not lay down, and reap that which you did not sow. Then he said to him: Out of your own mouth will I judge you, you wicked servant. You knew that I was a hard man, taking up what I did not lay down, and reaping what I did not sow. And why then did you not put my money into the bank, that, when I came, I could have collected it with inter est? And he said to those who stood by: Take from him the pound, and give it to him that has ten pounds. And they said to him: Lord, he has ten pounds. For I say to you, To every one that has, it shall be given; but from him that has not, even that which he has shall be taken away. But those who are my enemies, who were not willing that I should rule over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

Then he began to reprove the cities in which most of his mighty works had been done, because they did not repent. Alas for thee, Chorazin! alas for thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works which have been clone in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sack cloth and ashes. But I say to you, It will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon, in the day of judgment, than for you. read more.
And thou, Capernaum, that hast been exalted to heaven, shalt be brought down to hades. For if the mighty works which have been done in thee had been done in Sodom, it would have remained till this day. But I say to you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom, in the day of judgment, than for thee.

For this reason, behold, I send you prophets and wise men and scribes; and some of them you will kill and crucify; and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city; that upon you may come all the righteous blood which has been shed upon the earth, from the blood of Abel the just to the blood of Zachariah, the son of Barachiah, whom you slew between the temple and the altar. Verily I say to you, All these things shall come upon this generation. read more.
Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets and stonest those who are sent to thee, how often have I desired to gather thy children together, as a bird gathers her young under her wings, and you refused. Behold, your house is left to you deserted.

When once the master of the house has risen, and closed the door, and you begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open for us, and he shall answer and say to you, I know you not, whence you are; then, you will begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. And he shall say, I tell you, I know you not, whence you are; depart from me, all you workers of iniquity. read more.

And to the angel of the church in Sardis, write: These things says he that has the seven spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know your works, that you have a name, that you live, and are dead. Be watchful, and strengthen the things that remain, which are about to die; for I have not found your works perfect before God. Remember, therefore, how you have received and heard, and be watchful and repent. If, therefore, you do not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you shall not know at what hour I will come upon you.

Therefore he said to the multitudes that came out to be immersed by him: Generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Bring forth, therefore, fruits worthy of repentance. And begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for our father; for I say to you, that God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham. And now also the ax is lying at the root of the trees; therefore, every tree that does not produce good fruit, is cut down and cast into the fire.

For some men have stealthily entered in, who were long ago appointed to this condemnation; ungodly men, who pervert the grace of our God, and use it for lascivious purposes, and deny our only Sovereign and Lord, Jesus Christ. But I wish to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people from the land of Egypt, then destroyed those who believed not. The angels also that kept not their own dominion, but left their proper habitation, he has reserved, in eternal chains under darkness, to the judgment of the great day. read more.
So Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities which were about them, in like manner giving themselves over to lewdness, and following after other flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the punishment of eternal fire.

So, then, because you are luke-warm, and neither cold, nor hot, I will vomit you out of my mouth. Because you say I am rich, and abound in wealth, and have need of nothing, and know not that you are miserable and pitiable and poor and blind and naked, I counsel you to buy of me gold that has been tried in the fire, that you may be rich; and white raiment, that you may be clothed, and that the shame of your nakedness may not appear; and anoint your eyes with eye-salve, that you may see. read more.
As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten; be zealous, therefore, and repent.
