Law » What the law is
And the sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law;
Verse Concepts
Wherefore by the works of the law there shall no flesh be justified is his sight, for by the law there is an acknowledgment of sin.
Verse Concepts
What shall we say then? Is the law sin? By no means. On the contrary I knew not sin except through the law; for I had not known inordinate desire, unless the law had said, You shall not desire inordinately. But Sin having taken occasion through the commandment wrought in me every inordinate desire; for without the law sin was dead. And I was alive without the law once, but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died, read more.
and the commandment which was for life was found to be for death. For sin having taken occasion through the commandment deceived me, and through it killed me. The law therefore is holy, and the commandment holy and righteous and good. Did then that which is good become death to me? By no means, but sin; that sin might be made manifest, producing death to me through that which is good, that sin might become exceedingly sinful through the commandment. For we know that the law is spiritual; but I am carnal, sold under sin. For what I do this I approve not; for I do not what I wish, but what I hate, this I do. But if what I wish not this I do, I consent to the law that it is good;

What then? The law was added on account of transgressions, till the offspring should come to which the promise was made, being appointed by angels by the hand of a mediator. But there is no mediator of one; but God is one. Is the law then against the promises of God? By no means. For if a law had been given, able to give life, righteousness would really have been by the law; read more.
but the Scripture has shut up all under sin, that the promise of the faith of Jesus Christ may be given to them that believe. But before the faith came, we were kept shut up under the law for the faith to be revealed. So that the law was our schoolmaster to lead to Christ, that we might be justified by faith; but the faith having come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. For you are all children of God by the faith in Jesus Christ; for as many of you as are baptized in Christ, have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither servant nor freeman, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are of Christ, then are you Abraham's children and heirs according to the promise.

But we know that the law is good if one uses it lawfully;

For what the law could not do because it was weak through the flesh, God having sent his Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned the sin in the flesh, that the righteous ordinance of the law may be performed by us who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the spirit.
