He called the name of that place Bethel, but the name of the city was Luz at the first. So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and made for them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.

Joshua set up twelve stones in the middle of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests who bore the ark of the covenant stood; and they are there to this day.
