And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour except in his own country and in his own house.

Behold, I have made thy face strong against their faces, and thy forehead strong against their foreheads. As diamond harder than flint I have made thy forehead: do not fear them, neither be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house.

And the Spirit lifted me up and took me away, and I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit; but the hand of the LORD was strong upon me.

O LORD, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear; and raise my voice unto thee because of the violence, and thou wilt not save? Why dost thou cause me to see iniquity and cause me to behold grievance and destruction and violence before me, in addition to those that raise up strife and contention?

Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James and Joses and of Juda and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not dishonoured except in his own country and among his own kin and in his own house.

And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.

For Jesus himself testified that a prophet has no honour in his own country.

Transgression loves him that loves strife, and he that exalts his gate seeks destruction.

Charcoal for burning coals and wood for fire, and a contentious man to kindle strife.

Why dost thou cause me to see iniquity and cause me to behold grievance and destruction and violence before me, in addition to those that raise up strife and contention?

God shall hear and bring them down, even he that abides from of old. Selah. Because they do not change, nor do they fear God.

These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou didst think that I was altogether such a one as thyself, but I will reprove thee and set them in order before thine eyes.

Because I have called and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one responded; for because ye have disregarded all my counsel and rejected my reproof: I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear comes upon you; read more.
when what you have feared comes as destruction, and your calamity comes as a whirlwind; when tribulation and anguish come upon you. Then they shall call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD: They rejected my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

Because the sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. Though a sinner does evil one hundred times and his judgment is prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with those that fear God, who fear before his presence; but it shall never be well with the wicked, neither shall his days be prolonged, which are as a shadow, because he did not fear before the presence of God.

Why dost thou cause me to see iniquity and cause me to behold grievance and destruction and violence before me, in addition to those that raise up strife and contention? Therefore the law is weakened, and the judgment does not go forth true: for the wicked compasses about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceeds.

Aleph Do not be angry with the evildoers, neither be thou envious of the workers of iniquity.

The tents of robbers are at ease, and those that provoke God and those who carry gods in their hands live secure.

Fearful sounds are in his ears; in peace the destroyer shall come upon him.

that the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?

Though a sinner does evil one hundred times and his judgment is prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with those that fear God, who fear before his presence; but it shall never be well with the wicked, neither shall his days be prolonged, which are as a shadow, because he did not fear before the presence of God.

Resh I have seen the wicked in great power and spreading himself like a green bay tree. Yet he passed away, and, behold, he was not: I sought him, but he could not be found.

We say, therefore, now, that blessed are the proud and even that those that work wickedness are prospered; those that tempted God have escaped.

I have seen the foolish taking root, but at the same time I cursed his habitation. His sons are far from saving health, and they shall be crushed in the gate, and there shall be no one to deliver them. The hungry shall eat up his harvest, and even take it out from among the thorns, and the thirsty shall drink up their substance.

He wanders abroad for bread, saying, Where is it? He knows that the day of darkness is prepared for him.

for he covered his face with his fatness and made collops of fat on his flanks;

He shall not become rich, nor shall his strength be established, neither shall he extend his beauty upon the earth.

In the fullness of his sufficiency, he shall come into anguish; the hands of all the wicked shall come upon him.

Why do the wicked live and become old and even increase in riches? Their seed is with them, established in their sight, and their offspring before their eyes. Their houses are safe from fear; neither is the rod of God upon them. read more.
Their cows conceive, and do not abort; their cows calve and do not cast forth their young. They send forth their little ones like a flock of sheep, and their children dance. They jump at the sound of the timbrel and harp and rejoice at the sound of the organ. They spend their days in pleasure and in a moment go down to Sheol.

For he sees that all the wise men die, likewise the fool and the ignorant perish and leave their wealth to others. Their inward thought is that their houses are eternal and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names. Nevertheless man will not abide forever in honour; he is like the beasts that are cut off. read more.
This their way is their folly; yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah. Like sheep they are laid in Sheol; death shall feed on them, and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning, and their beauty shall be consumed in the grave from their dwelling. Surely God will ransom my soul from the hand of Sheol when he shall take me. Selah.

For I became angry against the foolish when I saw the peace of the wicked. Because there is no restraint that would bring about their death, but their strength is firm. They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men. read more.
Therefore they are crowned with pride; they cover themselves with violence as a garment. Their eyes stand out with fatness; they easily obtain the desires of their heart. They are lawless and speak wickedly of doing violence; they speak loftily. They set their mouth against heaven, and their tongue walks through the earth. Therefore his people shall return here; and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them. And they say, How does God know? and is there knowledge in the most High? Behold, these ungodly men, without being troubled by the world obtain riches. Verily, in vain have I cleansed my heart and washed my hands in innocency and been plagued all day long and chastened every morning: If I should say, I will speak as they do; behold, I should deny the generation of thy sons. I shall meditate that I might understand this; it is very hard for me to see. When I come into the sanctuary of God, then I shall understand their end. Surely thou didst set them in slippery places; in desolation thou shalt cause them to fall. How they are brought into desolation, as in a moment! They have come to an end; they are utterly consumed with terrors. As the dream of one who awakes; so, O Lord, when thou shalt rise up, thou shalt despise their appearances. Truly my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my kidneys. But I was ignorant and did not understand; I was as a beast before thee.

A carnal man does not know, neither does a fool understand this: The wicked spring forth as the grass, and all the workers of iniquity blossom, so that they shall be destroyed for ever:

Righteous art thou, O LORD, even though I dispute with thee: even so, I will speak judgments with thee; Why does the way of the wicked prosper? All those that completely rebel against thee have peace. Thou hast planted them, and they have taken root: they grow, and they bring forth fruit; thou art near in their mouth and far from their kidneys.

Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil and canst not look on iniquity: why dost thou look upon those that deal treacherously and hold thy tongue when the wicked devour the man that is more righteous than he? And dost make men as the fishes of the sea, as reptiles that have no lord? He shall take up all of them with his hook; he shall catch them in his net and gather them in his drag: therefore, he shall rejoice and be glad. read more.
Therefore, he shall sacrifice unto his net and burn incense unto his drag because by them his portion is fat, and his food plenteous. Shall he therefore empty his net, or have pity to stop slaying Gentiles continually?
