they will not see the land that I swore by oath to their ancestors, and all those who despised me will not see it.
You [yourselves] will not come into the land that {I swore by oath} to make you to dwell in it, but Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.
For Yahweh said to them, "They will surely die in the desert." And not a man was left over from them, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.
'The men who went up from Egypt, from {those twenty years old} and above, will not see the land that I swore with an oath to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob because they have not wholly followed me,
'No one of these men of this evil generation will see the good land that I swore to give to your ancestors,
For forty years the {Israelites} traveled in the wilderness until all the nation, the warriors that left Egypt, perished, because they did not listen to the voice of Yahweh. To them Yahweh swore that they would not see the land that he swore to their ancestors to give to us, a land flowing with milk and honey.
And also {I myself swore} to them in the desert not to bring them into the land that I had given [to them], flowing with milk and honey--it [is the most] beautiful of all of the lands--
And [so] we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief.
Since therefore it remains [for] some to enter into it, and the ones to whom the good news was proclaimed previously did not enter because of disobedience,

Take my yoke on you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Therefore let us fear, [while there] remains a promise of entering into his rest, that none of you appear to fall short of [it]. {For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us}, just as those also [did], but the message {they heard} did not benefit them, [because they] were not united with those who heard [it] in faith. For we who have believed enter into rest, just as he has said, "As I swore in my anger, '{They will never enter} into my rest.'" For he has spoken somewhere about the seventh [day] in this way: "And God rested on the seventh day from all his works," and in this [passage] again, '{They will never enter} into my rest.'" Since therefore it remains [for] some to enter into it, and the ones to whom the good news was proclaimed previously did not enter because of disobedience, again he ordains a certain day, today, speaking by David after so long a time, just as had been said before, "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts." For if Joshua had caused them to rest, he would not have spoken about another day after these [things]. Consequently a sabbath rest remains for the people of God. For the one who has entered into his rest has also himself rested from his works, just as God [did] from his own [works]. Therefore, let us make every effort to enter into that rest, in order that no one may fall in the same pattern of disobedience.

If anyone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, but he himself will be saved, but so as through fire.
