When the house of David was told, "Syria is in league withEphraim," the heart of Ahaz and the heart of his people shook as the trees of the forest shake before the wind. The LORD will bring upon you and upon your people and upon your father's house such days as have not come since the day that Ephraim departed from Judah--the king of Assyria."

An oracle concerning Damascus. Behold, Damascus will cease to be a city and will become a heap of ruins. The cities of Aroer are deserted; they will be for flocks, which will lie down, and none will make them afraid.
