Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.

Wherefore I will yet plead with you, saith the LORD, and with your children's children will I plead. For pass over the isles of Chittim, and see; and send to Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there is such a thing. Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit. read more.
Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the LORD. For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed out for themselves cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.

They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.

Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, even as ye were led.

Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.

For all the gods of the people are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.

Then shall the cities of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem go, and cry to the gods to which they offer incense: but they shall not save them at all in the time of their trouble.

Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made:

For though there are that are called gods, whether in heaven or upon earth, (as there are gods many, and lords many)

Shall a man make gods to himself, and they are no gods?

Why then hath this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? they hold fast deceit, they refuse to return.

Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit. Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the LORD. What profiteth the graven image that its maker hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols? Woe to him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.

Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.

They that make a graven image are all of them vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed. Who hath formed a god, or cast a graven image that is profitable for nothing?

But draw near hither, ye sons of the sorceress, the seed of the adulterer and the lewd. Against whom do ye sport yourselves? against whom make ye a wide mouth, and thrust out the tongue? are ye not children of transgression, a seed of falsehood, Inflaming yourselves with idols under every green tree, slaying the children in the valleys under the cliffs of the rocks? read more.
Among the smooth stones of the stream is thy portion; they, they are thy lot: even to them hast thou poured a drink-offering, thou hast offered a meat-offering. Should I receive comfort in these? Upon a lofty and high mountain hast thou set thy bed: even thither thou wentest up to offer sacrifice. Behind the doors also and the posts hast thou set up thy remembrance: for thou hast uncovered thyself to another than me, and hast gone up; thou hast enlarged thy bed, and made thee a covenant with them; thou lovedst their bed where thou sawest it. And thou wentest to the king with ointment, and didst increase thy perfumes, and didst send thy messengers far off, and didst debase thyself even to hell. Thou art wearied in the greatness of thy way; yet saidst thou not, There is no hope: thou hast found the life of thy hand; therefore thou wast not grieved. And of whom hast thou been afraid or feared, that thou hast lied, and hast not remembered me, nor laid it to thy heart? have not I held my peace even of old, and thou fearest me not? I will declare thy righteousness, and thy works; for they shall not profit thee.

O LORD, my strength and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come to thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things in which there is no profit. Shall a man make gods to himself, and they are no gods?

For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul: Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
