Afflictions of the The Wicked » Are often judicially sent
Fools are afflicted because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities.
How often is it that the lamp of the profane is put out, that their calamity comes upon them, that [God] distributes sorrows in his anger,
Why do thou cry for thy hurt? Thy pain is incurable, for the greatness of thine iniquity. Because thy sins were increased, I have done these things to thee.
Iniquity » The reward for iniquity
And because of the increased lawlessness, the love of the many will become cold.
Fools are afflicted because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities.
If I regard iniquity in my heart, LORD will not hear.
Behold, the day of LORD comes, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger, to make the land a desolation, and to destroy the sinners thereof out of it. For the stars of heaven and the constellations of it shall not give their light. The sun shall be darkened in its going forth, and the moon shall not cause its light to shine. And I will punish the world for the evil, and the wicked for their iniquity. And I will cause the arrogance of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.

To LORD our God belong mercies and forgiveness, for we have rebelled against him, nor have we obeyed the voice of LORD our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets. Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even turning aside, that they should not obey thy voice. Therefore the curse has been poured out upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God. Therefore LORD has watched over the evil, and brought it upon us, for LORD our God is righteous in all his works which he does, and we have not obeyed his voice.
