Baptism » John's
beginning from the baptism of John, until the day on which He was taken up from us, it behooveth one of these to be witness of His resurrection along with us.
Then Jerusalem and all Judea, and all the region about the Jordan, were coming out to him, and were being baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. And seeing many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said unto them; O generations of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? read more.

And I did not know Him, but in order that He may be made manifest to Israel, on this account I came baptizing with water.
And I did not know Him, but the One having sent me to baptize with water, He said to me, On whom you may see the Spirit descending and remaining on Him, He is the one baptizing with the Holy Ghost.
And John was also baptizing in Enon near Salim, because there were many waters there: and they came and baptized.
And again He departed beyond the Jordan into the place where John was first baptizing; and remained there:
that John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

And he will go before Him in the spirit and Power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient unto the understanding of the righteous, to prepare a people made ready for the Lord.
And if you wish to receive it, he is Elijah, who is to come.

This is the testimony of John when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem, that they might ask him, Who art thou? and he confessed and denied not, and confessed that, I am not the Christ. They asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? And he says, I am not. Art thou that prophet? read more.

And I did not know Him, but in order that He may be made manifest to Israel, on this account I came baptizing with water. And John testified saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and remained on Him. And I did not know Him, but the One having sent me to baptize with water, He said to me, On whom you may see the Spirit descending and remaining on Him, He is the one baptizing with the Holy Ghost. And I have seen, and testified that He is the Son of God.
