beginning from the baptism of John, until the day on which He was taken up from us, it behooveth one of these to be witness of His resurrection along with us.

Then Jerusalem and all Judea, and all the region about the Jordan, were coming out to him, and were being baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. And seeing many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said unto them; O generations of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? read more.
Therefore bring forth fruit worthy of repentance;


Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, in order to be baptized by him. And John continued to forbid Him saying, I have need to be baptized by thee, and comest thou unto me? And Jesus responding said to him; Suffer it now; for thus it is becoming us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffers Him. read more.
And Jesus having been baptized, came up straightway from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened and He saw the Spirit of God, descending like a dove, coming on Him.

Whence was the baptism of John? from heaven or from men? And they reasoned among themselves, saying, If we may say, From heaven; He will say to us, Why then did you not believe on him?

John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness the baptism of repentance unto the remission of sins. And all the Judean country and the Jerusalemites were going out unto him, and were being baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

and He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost. And it came to pass in those days, Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And coming up straightway from the water, He saw the heavens open and the Spirit like a dove descending on Him.

Was the baptism of John from heaven, or from men? answer me.

Then he said unto the multitudes coming out to be baptized by him; O generations of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say among yourselves; We have Abraham our father.

And the publicans came also to be baptized, and said to him; Teacher, what shall we do!

And it came to pass while all the people were being baptized, and Jesus having been baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,

And all the people hearing and the publicans justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John. But the Pharisees and theologians rejected the counsel of God, against themselves, not having been baptized by him.

Was the baptism of John from heaven, or from men?

And they asked him, and said to him, Then why do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor that prophet? John responded to them, saying, I baptize with water: There standeth One in your midst whom you do not know,

These things took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

And I did not know Him, but in order that He may be made manifest to Israel, on this account I came baptizing with water.

And I did not know Him, but the One having sent me to baptize with water, He said to me, On whom you may see the Spirit descending and remaining on Him, He is the one baptizing with the Holy Ghost.

And John was also baptizing in Enon near Salim, because there were many waters there: and they came and baptized.

And again He departed beyond the Jordan into the place where John was first baptizing; and remained there:


This word you know, which was throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

And I remembered the word of the Lord, as He said, John indeed baptized with water; but you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

And he said, Into what then were you baptized? And they said, Into the baptism of John. And Paul said, John baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on the one coming after him, that is Jesus.


And he will go before Him in the spirit and Power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient unto the understanding of the righteous, to prepare a people made ready for the Lord.


And they said, Some, John the Baptist; and some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.

And His disciples asked Him, saying, Why then do the scribes say that it behooves Elijah to come first? And Jesus responding said to them, Elijah indeed comes, and will restore all things: but I say unto you, that Elijah has already come, and they recognized Him not, but did unto Him so many things as they wished; thus the Son of man is also about to suffer by them.

He responding said to them, Elijah indeed having first come, restores all things: and how has it been written in reference to the Son of man, that he should suffer many things, and be set at naught? But I say unto you, that Elijah indeed has come, and they did unto him so many things as they wished, as has been written in reference to him.

They asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? And he says, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he responded, No. Then they said to him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to those having sent us. What do you say concerning yourself? I am the voice of one roaring in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord as Isaiah the prophet said. read more.

This is the testimony of John when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem, that they might ask him, Who art thou? and he confessed and denied not, and confessed that, I am not the Christ. They asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? And he says, I am not. Art thou that prophet? read more.
And he responded, No. Then they said to him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to those having sent us. What do you say concerning yourself? These things took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing. On the following day he sees Jesus coming to him, and says, Behold the Lamb of God, that taketh away the sin of the world. This is He concerning whom I spoke, A man cometh after me who has been before me: because he was my Creator. And I did not know Him, but in order that He may be made manifest to Israel, on this account I came baptizing with water. And John testified saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and remained on Him. And I did not know Him, but the One having sent me to baptize with water, He said to me, On whom you may see the Spirit descending and remaining on Him, He is the one baptizing with the Holy Ghost. And I have seen, and testified that He is the Son of God.


And Paul said, John baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on the one coming after him, that is Jesus.

as has been written in the book of Isaiah the prophet, saying; The voice of one roaring in the wilderness; Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight His paths. Every valley shall be filled up and every mountain and hill shall be cut down; and the crooked places shall be straight and the rough ways smooth. And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

And Jesus responding said to them, Elijah indeed comes, and will restore all things:

As has been written in the prophets; Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who will prepare thy way before thee; the voice of one roaring in the wilderness; Prepare ye the way of the Lord; make His paths straight. John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness the baptism of repentance unto the remission of sins. read more.
And all the Judean country and the Jerusalemites were going out unto him, and were being baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. And John was clothed with camel's hair and a leathern girdle about his loins, and eating locusts and wild honey; And he proclaimed, saying, I indeed baptized you with water; but One cometh after me more powerful than I; the latchet of His sandals I am not worthy, having stooped down, to loose, and He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.

For he shall be great before the Lord; and he shall not drink wine and strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost even from the womb of his mother. And he will turn many of the sons of Israel to the Lord, their God. And he will go before Him in the spirit and Power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient unto the understanding of the righteous, to prepare a people made ready for the Lord.

And thou, little child, shall be called a prophet of the Highest; for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways, to give knowledge of salvation to His people in remission of their sins, through the bowels of mercy of our God, in which the dayspring from on high looked upon us, read more.
to appear unto those sitting in darkness and in the shadow of death, to direct our feet in the way of peace.

The same came for a witness, that he might bear witness concerning the light, in order that all through him might believe. He was not the light, but came that he might bear witness concerning the light.

And I have seen, and testified that He is the Son of God.

There is another who testifieth concerning me; and you know that the testimony which He testifies concerning me is true. You sent to John, and he witnessed to the truth: but I do not receive the witness with man: but I speak these things that you may be saved. read more.
He was a bright and shining light: and you were willing to rejoice for an hour in that light.

and John having preached the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel, before the face of his coming. And when John fulfilled his course, he said, What do you consider me to be? I am not he: but, behold, there comes one after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to loose.
