As Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers--Simon, also known as Peter, and his brother Andrew--casting a net into the Sea; for they were fishermen.
As soon as they had come out from the Synagogue, they went, with James and John, into the house of Simon and Andrew.
When Jesus had sat down on the Mount of Olives, facing the Temple, Peter, James, John and Andrew questioned him privately:
One of the two, who heard what John said and followed Jesus, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
Philip went and told Andrew, and then together they went and told Jesus.
When they reached Jerusalem, they went to the upstairs room, where they were staying. There were there Peter, John, James, and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James.

"Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" asked Nathanael. "Come and see," replied Philip. When Jesus saw Nathanael coming towards him, he said: "Here is a true Israelite, in whom there is no deceit!" "How do you know me?" asked Nathanael. "Even before Philip called you," replied Jesus, "when you were under the fig tree, I saw you." "Rabbi," Nathanael exclaimed, "you are the Son of God, you are King of Israel!" "Do you believe in me," asked Jesus, "because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You shall see greater things than those! But, if we say 'human,' the people will all stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a Prophet."
