Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who heard from John, and followed him; he first found his brother Simon, and said to him, We have found the Messiah; which is interpreted, Christ [Anointed]. He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looking at him said, You are Simon, the son of Jonas; you shall be called Cephas; which is interpreted, Peter [Rock].

And there were some Greeks of those who went up to Jerusalem to worship at the feast; these, therefore, came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, Sir, we wish to see Jesus. Philip went and told Andrew, and again Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus.

Nathanael said to him, Whence do you know me? Jesus answered and said to him, Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree I saw you. Nathanael answered him, Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel. Jesus answered and said to him, Because I said to you I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You shall see greater things than these. And he said to him, I tell you most truly, you shall see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
