When therefore he heard that he was sick, he remained in the place where he was two days. Then after this he saith to the disciples, Let us go into Judaea again. The disciples say to him, Rabbi, the Jews but just now were seeking to stone thee, and goest thou thither again? Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If a man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world; but if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth; because the light is not in him. This he spoke, and afterwards said to them, Our friend Lazarus hath fallen asleep; but I go that I may awake him out of sleep. The disciples therefore said to him, Lord, if he hath fallen asleep, he will recover. But Jesus had spoken of his death; but they thought that he spoke of the taking of rest in sleep. Then therefore Jesus said to them plainly: Lazarus is dead. And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there; that ye may believe; but let us go to him. Then said Thomas, who was called Didymus, to his fellowdisciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.

The next day he seeth Jesus coming to him, and saith, Behold, the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sin of the world! This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man, who hath gone before me; for he was before me. And I knew him not; but that he might be made manifest to Israel, therefore I came baptizing in water. And John bore witness, saying, I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove from heaven, and it abode upon him. And I knew him not; but he who sent me to baptize in water, the same said to me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending and abiding on him, he it is that baptizeth in the Holy Spirit. And I have seen and have borne witness, that this is the Son of God.
