And when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, a woman came to Him, having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on His head as He reclined. But when His disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, To what purpose is this waste? read more.
For this ointment might have been sold for very much and given to the poor. When Jesus understood it, He said to them, Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a good work on Me. For you have the poor with you always, but you do not always have Me. For in putting ointment on My body, she did it for My burial. Truly I say to you, Wherever this gospel shall be proclaimed in the whole world, that which this woman has done shall be spoken of also, for a memorial of her.

Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was (who had died, whom He raised from the dead). Then they made a supper there for Him. And Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those reclining with Him. Then Mary took a pound of ointment of pure spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the odor of the ointment. read more.
Then said one of His disciples (Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, who was to betray Him) Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor? He said this, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief and held the moneybag and carried the things put in. Then Jesus said, Let her alone. She has kept this for the day of My burial. For you have the poor with you always; but you do not always have Me. Then a great crowd of the Jews learned that He was there. And they did not come for Jesus' sake only, but also that they might see Lazarus, whom He had raised from the dead.


But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she came to Him and said, Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.

And he took butter and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them. And he stood by them under the tree, and they ate.

Then they made a supper there for Him. And Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those reclining with Him.


And He also said to him who invited Him, When you make a dinner or a supper, do not call your friends or your brothers, or your kinsmen, or your rich neighbors; lest they also invite you again, and a recompense be made to you.

Then they made a supper there for Him. And Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those reclining with Him.


Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand.

Therefore they gathered and filled twelve handbaskets with fragments of the five barley loaves which were left over to those who had eaten.

And at that time Solomon held a feast, and all Israel with him, a great congregation, from the entering in of Hamath to the river of Egypt, before Jehovah our God, seven days and seven days, fourteen days.

Then they made a supper there for Him. And Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those reclining with Him.

And Levi made a great feast in his own house for Him. And there was a great company of tax-collectors and of others who were reclining with them.

And a convenient day came, when Herod made a supper to great men on his birthday, and to the chiliarchs, and to the first ones of Galilee.

And he prepared a great feast for them. And when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. And the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.

And they were with David three days, eating and drinking. For their brothers had prepared food for them.

And when these days had expired, the king made a feast to all the people who were present in Shushan the palace, both to great and small, for seven days in the court of the garden of the king's palace.

And He said to them, Now draw out and carry it to the master of the feast. And they carried it.

And his elder son was in the field. And as he came and drew near the house, he heard music and dancing.

Also Vashti the queen made a feast for the women in the royal house which belonged to King Ahasuerus.


When you are invited by anyone to a wedding, do not recline in the chief seat, lest a more honorable man than you may be invited by him.

If any of those who do not believe invite you to a feast, and if you are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you, asking no questions for conscience' sake.

Then Jesus said to them plainly, Lazarus is dead.

And saying these things, He cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, Here! Outside!

But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus to death also,
