Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abide in the vine: so neither can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: he that abideth in me, and I in him, this person beareth much fruit: because without me ye can do nothing. THE former treatise, Theophilus, I composed, concerning all things which Jesus began both to do and to teach, until that day, when having given a charge to his apostles through the Holy Ghost, whom he had chosen, he was taken up: to whom also he had shewed himself alive, after he had suffered, by many infallible proofs, during forty days being frequently seen by them, and speaking of the things which relate to the kingdom of God:

The Spirit is the life-giving power; the flesh contributeth nothing: the declarations which I make to you, they are spirit, and they are life. But there are some of you who do not believe.
