Curiosity » The levite looked with indifferent curiosity upon the man who was » Leads to the desire for signs
Then the Pharisees and the Sadducees came, with a captious design, and desired him to show them some miracle in the sky.
there the Pharisees being come, they began to dispute with him, and to try him, desir'd he would work some miracle in the sky.
others, to try him, desir'd he would show some miraculous sign in the heaven.
Then certain of the Scribes and of the Pharisees said, master, we should be glad you would shew us some miracle.
And when he was upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came to him in private, and said, tell us when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of this age?
whereupon the Jews said, what miracle can you show to justify your behaviour?

Jesus Christ » History of » Drives the money-changers from the temple (in jerusalem)

away with these things; make not my father's house a market-house. which put his disciples in mind of that passage, "my zeal for thine house does prey upon me." whereupon the Jews said, what miracle can you show to justify your behaviour? Jesus answered them, saying, destroy this temple, and within three days I will raise it up. to this said the Jews, forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? but by the temple he meant his body. and when he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembred that expression of his: and they believed the scripture, and what Jesus had said. Now whilst he was in Jerusalem at the feast of the passover, many believed in him when they saw the miracles which he did. but Jesus did not trust his person with them, because he knew them all. and he did not want any information concerning man: for he knew of himself the secret of their hearts.
