When he had spoken thus, one of the attendants, who was standing by, struck Jesus with his open hand, saying: Do you answer the chief priest thus? Jesus answered him: If I have spoken evil, testify of the evil; but if well, why do you strike me?

Jesus spoke these words, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said: Father, the hour has come: glorify thy Son, that thy Son may also glorify thee; as thou hast given him authority over all flesh, that he may give eternal life to all that thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, to know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou has sent. read more.
I have glorified thee on the earth; I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. And now, Father, glorify me with thyself, with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. I have made known thy name to the men that thou gavest me out of the world. Thine they were, and thou gavest them, to me, and they have kept thy word. Now they know that all things that thou hast given me are from thee; for the words which thou gavest me I have given them; and they have received them, and they know surely that I came forth from thee, and they believe that thou didst send me. I pray for them; I pray not for the world, but for them whom thou hast given me; for they are thine. And all mine are thine, and thine are mine, and I am glorified in them. And I am no longer in the world; but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep in thy name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are one. While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name. Those whom thou gavest me, I have kept; and none of them is lost but the son of perdition, that the scripture may be fulfilled. And now I come to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves. I have given them thy word; and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

For he whom God has sent, speaks the words of God; for God gives not the Spirit by measure to him. The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand.

Then they said to him: Who are you? And Jesus said to them: The same that I said to you at the beginning. I have many things to say, and to judge with respect to you; but he that sent me is true; and what things I have heard from him, these I speak to the world. They knew not that he was speaking to them of the Father. read more.
Then said Jesus to them: When you have lifted up the Son of man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of myself, but as the Father has taught me I speak these things. And he that sent me is with me. The Father has not left me alone, because I always do what is pleasing to him.

Jesus cried, and said: He that believes on me, believes not on me, but on him that sent me. And he that sees me, sees him that sent me. I have come a light into the world, that he who believes on me, may not remain in darkness. read more.
And if any one hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not; for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejects me, and receives not my words, has that which judges him: the word which I have spoken, that shall judge him in the last day. For I have not spoken of myself: but the Father who sent me, he gave me commandment what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life eternal. What things I speak therefore, as the Father has said to me, so I speak.

I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine-dresser. Every branch in me that bears no fruit, he takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. Now are you pure, through the word which I have spoken to you. read more.
Abide in me, and I will abide in you. As the branch can not bear fruit of itself, unless it abide in the vine, so neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He that abides in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; for apart from me you can do nothing. If any one abide not in me, he is thrown out as a branch, and withers; and such are gathered, and thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you will, and it shall be done for you. In this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit; and in this you will be my disciples. As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you; abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you shall abide in my love, even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken to you, that my joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. This is my commandment: That you love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love has no man than this, that one should lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends, if you do whatever I command you. I no longer call you servants, because the servant knows not what his master does. But I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard from my Father, I have made known to you.

His disciples said to him: Lo, now thou speakest plainly, and speakest no parable. Now we know that thou knowest all things, and hast no need that any one should ask thee. By this we believe that thou hast come forth from God. Jesus answered them: Do you now believe? read more.
Behold, the hour is coming, and has now come, in which you shall be scattered, each one to his own home, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me. These things I have spoken to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you shall have affliction, but be of good courage; I have overcome the world.

THE former record I made, Theophilus, of all things that Jesus began both to do and to teach, till the day on which he was taken up, after he had, through the Holy Spirit, given commandments to the apostles whom he had chosen. To whom, after he had suffered, he also showed himself alive, by many indubitable proofs; appearing to them for forty days, and speaking of the things that pertain to the kingdom of God.

But Jesus answered them: My Father works till now, and I also work. For this reason, therefore, the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he had not only broken the sabbath, but also said that God was his own father, making himself equal with God. Then Jesus answered and said to them: Verily, verily I say to you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the Father do; for whatever things he does, these also the Son does in like manner. read more.
For the Father loves the Son, and shows him all things that he himself does; and he will show him greater works than these, that you may be astonished.

Jesus said to them: I am the bread of life; he that comes to me shall never hunger; he that believes on me shall never thirst. But I said to you, that you have seen me, and yet you do not believe. All that the Father gives me, will come to me; and him that comes to me, I will by no means cast out. read more.
For I came down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me.

Jesus answered: Neither this man sinned, nor his parents; but that the works of God might be made manifest in him. I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day; the night comes, when no man can work.

Jesus answered and said to him: If any one loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our abode with him. He that loves me not, keeps not my words; and the word which you hear is not mine, but the Father's who sent me. These things have I spoken to you, while I am yet with you. read more.
But the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I have spoken to you. Peace I leave to you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, and let it not be afraid. You have heard that I said to you, I am going away, and am coming again to you. If you loved me, you would rejoice, because I go to the Father; for my Father is greater than I. And now I have told you before it comes to pass, that when it does come to pass, you may believe. I will not talk much more with you; for the prince of this world is coming, and has nothing in me. But this takes place that the world may know that I love the Father, and even as he gave me commandment, so I do. Arise, let us go hence.

Then, said I, Behold, I come, (in the roll of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, God. After saying above, Thou didst neither desire, nor take pleasure in sacrifice and offering and whole burnt-offerings and offerings for sin, which are offered according to the law, then he said, Behold, I come to do thy will: he takes away the first, that he may establish the second. By which will, we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time.
