and had completed the days, on their returning, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and his parents did not know it, but, supposing him to be in the company, went a days journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance; and not finding him, they returned to Jerusalem in search of him. And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard him were astonished at his understanding and his answers. And when they saw him, they were amazed; and his mother said to him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have been seeking thee in much distress. And he said to them, Why is it that ye have been seeking me? Did ye not know that I must be about my Fathers business? And they understood not what he spoke to them. And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them. And his mother kept all these things in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
