And immediately the Spirit taketh Him out into the wilderness: and He was there in the wilderness forty days tempted by Satan, and among the wild beasts: and angels ministred unto Him.

Then was Jesus led by the spirit into the wilderness, to be tempted by the devil: and when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, at last He was very hungry. And the tempter came to Him and said, If thou art the Son of God, command these stones to become bread: read more.
but He answered and said, It is written, "Man shall not live upon bread only, but on whatever proceedeth from the mouth of God." Then the devil taketh Him into the holy city, and setteth Him on a wing of the temple, and saith unto Him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down; for it is written, He will give his angels charge concerning thee, and they shall bear thee up as in their hands, least at any time thou shouldst dash thy foot against a stone: but Jesus said unto him, it is also written, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. Again the devil taketh Him to a very high mountain, and sheweth Him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; and saith unto Him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me: then Jesus saith unto him, Be gone, Satan; for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil left Him, and behold angels came and attended Him.

Now Jesus being full of the holy Spirit, returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being forty days tempted by the devil; and He did eat nothing in all those days: and when they were ended, at last He was hungry. And the devil said to Him, If thou art the Son of God, command this stone to become bread. read more.
And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, that man shall not live by bread only, but on every word of God. And the devil taking Him up into an high mountain, shewed Him all the kingdoms of the world in an instant, and said to Him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for it is committed to me, and I give it to whomsoever I will. Therefore, if thou wilt but worship me, they all shall be thine. And Jesus answering him said with indignation, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve. And he brought Him to Jerusalem, and set him on a battlement of the temple, and said to Him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence; for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee, to keep thee, and they shall bear thee up in their hands, least thou dash thy foot against a stone. And Jesus answered him, it is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from Him for a time.
