After the Sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary of Magdala and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. And there was a great earthquake. For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and went and rolled the stone back and sat upon it. His appearance was like lightning and his clothing was as white as snow. read more.
The men on guard trembled with fear of him, and became like dead men. And the angel said to the women, "You need not be afraid. I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, he has risen, as he said he would do. Come and see the place where he was lying. Now go quickly and tell his disciples, 'He has risen from the dead, and is going back to Galilee before you. You will see him there.' Now I have given you my message." They were in great perplexity over this, when suddenly two men in dazzling clothing stood beside them. The women were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, "Why do you look among the dead for him who is alive? Remember what he told you while he was still in Galilee, when he said that the Son of Man must be handed over to wicked men and be crucified and rise again on the third day." Then they remembered his words, and they went back from the tomb and told all this to the eleven and all the rest.
