But he did not say this because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief and when he had charge of the purse he used to take what was put in it. Jesus said, "Let her alone; let her keep it for the day of my funeral, for you always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me."

As she said this she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was he. Jesus said to her, "Why are you weeping? Who are you looking for?" But Martha was worried with all she had to do for them, and she came up and said, "Master, does it make no difference to you that my sister has left me to do all the work alone?
