And the king was very sad; yet, on account of his oath and his guests, he would not reject her. And the king immediately sent one of his guards, and commanded his head to be brought. And he went and beheaded him in the prison, and brought his head in a dish, and gave it to the maiden; and the maiden gave it to her mother.

With many other exhortations he proclaimed the good news to the people. But Herod the tetrarch having been reproved by him on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, and for all the wicked deeds which Herod did, added this also to them all, that he shut up John in prison.
