beginning from the immersion of John till the day on which he was taken up from us, must one be appointed as a witness with us of his resurrection.

Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region round about the Jordan, and were immersed by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins. But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his immersion, he said to them: Generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the coining wrath? read more.
Bring forth, therefore, fruit worthy of repentance:


Then came Jesus from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be immersed by him. But John forbade him, saying: I have need to be immersed by thee, and comest thou to me? But Jesus answering said to him: Permit it now; for thus it be comes us to perform fully every righteous act. Then he permitted him. read more.
And after Jesus was immersed, he came up immediately from the water; and lo, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and coming upon him.

The immersion of John, whence was it? from heaven, or from men? But they reasoned among themselves, and said, If we reply, From heaven, he will say to us, Why then did you not believe him?

John was immersing in the wilderness, and preaching the immersion of repentance in order to the remission of sins. And all the country of Judea and the inhabitants of Jerusalem went out to him, and were all immersed by him in the river Jordan, con fessing their sins.

I immerse you in water; but he will immerse you in the Holy Spirit. And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was immersed by John in the Jordan. And immediately on coming up from the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him.

Was the immersion of John from heaven, or from men? answer me.

Therefore he said to the multitudes that came out to be immersed by him: Generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Bring forth, therefore, fruits worthy of repentance. And begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for our father; for I say to you, that God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham.

And the publicans also came to be immersed, and they said to him: Teacher, what shall we do?

And it came to pass, while all the people were being immersed, that Jesus also was immersed; and as he was praying, the heaven was opened,

And all the people, and the publicans that heard him, vindicated God, by being immersed with the immersion of John; but the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the counsel of God in regard to themselves, by not being immersed by him.

Was the immersion of John from heaven, or from men?

and they asked him, and said to him: Why, then, do you immerse, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet? John answered them, saying: I immerse in water; but there stands one among you whom you know not.

These things were done in Beth any, beyond the Jordan, where John was immersing.

And I knew him not; but that he might be made manifest to Israel, for this reason I have come immersing in water.

And I knew him not; but he that sent me to immerse in water, said to me, On whom you shall see the Spirit descending and remaining, this is he that immerses in the Holy Spirit.

And John also was immersing in Aenon, near Salim, because there was much water there. And they came and were immersed;

And he went away again beyond the Jordan, to the place where John first immersed, and there he abode.


that word, you know, which was published through the whole of Judea, beginning from Galilee, after the immersion that John preached;

Then I remembered the word of the Lord, as he said, John immersed in water, but you shall be immersed in the Holy Spirit.

And he said to them: Into what, then, were you immersed? They replied: Into John's immersion. And Paul said: John immersed with the immersion of repentance, saying to the people, that they must believe on him who should come after him, that is, on the Christ, Jesus.

In those days came John the Immerser, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying: Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. For this is he that was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying: The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. read more.
But the same John had his clothing of camel's hair, and a girdle of leather around his loins, and his food was locusts and wild honey. Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region round about the Jordan, and were immersed by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins. But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his immersion, he said to them: Generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the coining wrath? Bring forth, therefore, fruit worthy of repentance: and think not to say within yourselves, "We have Abraham for our father; for I say to you that God is able from these stones to raise up children to Abraham. Even now the ax is lying at the root of the trees: therefore, every tree that does not bring forth good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. I immerse you in water, in order to repentance; but he that comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will immerse you in the Holy Spirit and in fire:

and he preached, saying: There comes after me One mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and loose. I immerse you in water; but he will immerse you in the Holy Spirit.

John answered them all, saying: I indeed immerse you in water; but there comes One mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to loose; he will immerse you in the Holy Spirit and in fire.

And I knew him not; but he that sent me to immerse in water, said to me, On whom you shall see the Spirit descending and remaining, this is he that immerses in the Holy Spirit. And I saw, and do testify that this is the Son of God.

And Paul said: John immersed with the immersion of repentance, saying to the people, that they must believe on him who should come after him, that is, on the Christ, Jesus.

But Herod the tetrarch having been reproved by him on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, and for all the wicked deeds which Herod did,

For John said to Herod: It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife. And Herodias was angry with him, and desired to have him killed, and was not able; for Herod feared John, because he knew him to be a just and holy man; and he kept him in safety. And having heard him, he did many things, and heard him with pleasure. read more.
And a suitable day having come, when Herod, on his birth day, made a supper for his great men, and his chief officers, and the first men of Galilee; and the daughter of this Herodias having come in, and danced, and pleased Herod and his guests, the king said to the maiden: Ask me what you will, and I will give it to you. And he swore to her: What ever you ask, I will give you, to the half of my kingdom. But she went out, and said to her mother: What shall I ask? She replied: The head of John the Immerser. And she came in immediately, with haste, to the king, and made her request, saying: I desire that you give me, at once, in a dish, the head of John the Immerser. And the king was very sad; yet, on account of his oath and his guests, he would not reject her. And the king immediately sent one of his guards, and commanded his head to be brought. And he went and beheaded him in the prison, and brought his head in a dish, and gave it to the maiden; and the maiden gave it to her mother.

And all the country of Judea and the inhabitants of Jerusalem went out to him, and were all immersed by him in the river Jordan, con fessing their sins.

While the people were in suspense, and all were reasoning in their hearts about John, whether he was the Christ or not,

Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region round about the Jordan, and were immersed by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.

And he intended to put him to death, but feared the multitude, because they regarded him as a prophet.

For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you believed him not. But the publicans and the harlots believed him. And you, when you had seen it, after ward felt no regret, that you might believe him.

But if we say, From men, they feared the people; for all regarded John as a prophet indeed.

Therefore he said to the multitudes that came out to be immersed by him: Generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the coming wrath?

But if we say, From men, all the people will stone us; for they believe that John was a prophet.

Again the next day, John was standing with two of his disciples. And looking on Jesus as he walked, he said: Be hold the Lamb of God. And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. read more.
And Jesus turned, and saw them following, and said to them: What do you seek? They said to him: Rabbi, (which, when translated, is called Teacher,) where abidest thou? He said to them: Come and see. They went and saw where he abode; and they remained with him that day; for it was about the tenth hour.

Annas and Caiaphas being chief priests, the word of God came to John the son of Zachariah, in the wilderness. And he came into all the country about the Jordan, preaching the immersion of repentance in order to the remission of sins;
