Then he released Barabbas for them, but [after] he had Jesus flogged, he handed [him] over so that he could be crucified. Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the governor's residence [and] gathered the whole cohort to him. And they stripped him [and] put a scarlet military cloak around him, read more.
and weaving a crown of thorns, they put [it] on his head, and [put] a reed in his right hand. And kneeling down before him, they mocked him, saying, "Hail, king of the Jews!" And they spat on him [and] took the reed and repeatedly struck [him] on his head. And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the military cloak and put his [own] clothes on him, and led him away in order to crucify [him]. And [as they] were going out, they found a man of Cyrene {named} Simon. They forced this man to carry his cross. And [when they] came to a place called Golgotha (which {means Place of a Skull}), they gave him wine mixed with gall to drink, and [when he] tasted [it] he did not want to drink [it]. And [when they] had crucified him, they divided his clothes among themselves [by] casting lots.

Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the governor's residence [and] gathered the whole cohort to him. And they stripped him [and] put a scarlet military cloak around him, and weaving a crown of thorns, they put [it] on his head, and [put] a reed in his right hand. And kneeling down before him, they mocked him, saying, "Hail, king of the Jews!" read more.
And they spat on him [and] took the reed and repeatedly struck [him] on his head. And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the military cloak and put his [own] clothes on him, and led him away in order to crucify [him].

So the soldiers led him away into the palace (that is, the governor's residence) and called together the whole cohort. And they put a purple cloak on him, and [after] weaving a crown of thorns they placed [it] on him. And they began to greet him, "Hail, king of the Jews!" read more.
And they repeatedly struck him on the head with a reed, and were spitting on him, and {they knelt down} [and] did obeisance to him. And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the purple cloak and put his own clothes on him, and they led him out so that they could crucify him.

So Pilate, [because he] wanted {to satisfy} the crowd, released for them Barabbas. And [after] he had Jesus flogged, he handed [him] over so that he could be crucified. So Pilate called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people [and] said to them, "You brought me this man as one who was misleading the people, and behold, [when I] examined [him] before you, I found nothing in this man as basis for the accusation which {you are making} against him But neither [did] Herod, because he sent him back to us. And behold, nothing deserving death {has been done} by him. read more.
Therefore I will punish him [and] release [him]." But they all cried out in unison, saying, "Take this man away, and release for us Barabbas!" (who had been thrown in prison because of a certain insurrection that had taken place in the city, and [for] murder) And Pilate, wanting to release Jesus, addressed [them] again, but they kept crying out, saying, "Crucify! Crucify him! So he said to them a third [time], "Why? What wrong has this man done? I found no basis for an accusation {deserving death} in him. Therefore I will punish him [and] release [him]." But they were urgent, demanding with loud cries [that] he be crucified. And their cries prevailed. And Pilate decided [that] their demand should be granted. And he released the one who had been thrown into prison because of insurrection and murder, whom they were asking for, but Jesus he handed over to their will.

And he said, "Why? What wrong has he done?" But they began to shout even louder, saying, "Let him be crucified!" So Pilate, [when he] saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but instead an uproar was developing, took water [and] washed his hands before the crowd, saying, "I am innocent of the blood of this man. You see to [it]!" And all the people answered [and] said, "His blood [be] on us and on our children!" read more.

And Pilate came outside again and said to them, "Behold, I am bringing him outside to you, so that you will know that I find no basis for an accusation against him." Then Jesus came outside wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe, and he said to them, "Behold the man!" So when they saw him, the chief priests and the officers shouted, saying, "Crucify! Crucify!" Pilate said to them, "You take him and crucify [him]! For I do not find a basis for an accusation against him." read more.
The Jews replied to him, "We have a law, and according to the law he ought to die, because he made himself out to be the Son of God!" So when Pilate heard this statement, he was even more afraid, and he entered into the governor's residence again and said to Jesus, "Where are you from?" But Jesus did not give him an answer. So Pilate said to him, "Will you not speak to me? Do you not know that I have authority to release you, and I have authority to crucify you?" Jesus replied to him, "You would not have any authority over me unless it was given to you from above. For this [reason] the one who handed me over to you has greater sin." From this [point on] Pilate was seeking to release him, but the Jews shouted, saying, "If you release this man, you are not a friend of Caesar! Everyone who makes himself out to be a king opposes Caesar!" So Pilate, [when he] heard these words, brought Jesus outside and sat down on the judgment seat, in the place called The Stone Pavement (but Gabbatha in Aramaic). (Now it was the day of preparation of the Passover; it was about the sixth hour.) And he said to the Jews, "Behold your king!"

Now it was early, and they did not enter into the governor's residence so that they would not be defiled, but could eat the Passover. (Now the tunic was seamless, woven from the top {in a single piece}.) So they said to one another, "Let us not tear it apart, but cast lots for it, [to see] whose it will be," so that the scripture would be fulfilled that says, "They divided my garments among themselves, and for my clothing they cast lots." Thus the soldiers did these [things].

And they brought him to the place Golgotha (which is translated "Place of a Skull"). And they attempted to give him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it. And they crucified him and divided his clothes among themselves [by] casting lots for them [to see] who should take what.

And Herod with his soldiers also treated him with contempt, and [after] mocking [him] [and] dressing [him] [in] glistening clothing, he sent him back to Pilate.
