And several women were there looking on at a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministring unto Him: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children. And in the evening, there came a rich man of Arimathea, whose name was Joseph, who also himself was a disciple of Jesus, and went to Pilate, read more.
and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered the body to be delivered to him; and Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had had cut out in the rock; and when he had rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, he went away: but there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary sitting over against the sepulchre.

Now after the sabbath, in the dawning towards the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, to look at the sepulchre: and behold, there had been a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descending from heaven, had come and rolled away the stone from the door, and was sitting upon it: (and his countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: read more.
and the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men:) and the angel said to the women, Be not ye afraid: for I know that ye seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay: and go quickly, and tell his disciples that He is risen from the dead; and behold, He is going before you into Galilee; there ye shall see Him; lo, I have told you. And they went immediately from the sepulchre, with fear, and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples.

Now it was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them, that told these things to the apostles: Verse ConceptsThe Apostles In Action

But Mary stood without near the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept she stooped down to look into the sepulchre; and there seeth two angels in white sitting, one at the head, and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. And they said to her, Woman, why dost thou weep? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid Him. read more.
And having said this, she turned back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus. Then said Jesus to her, Woman, why dost thou weep? whom dost thou seek? She thinking that it was the gardener, saith to Him, Sir, if thou hast carried Him hence, tell me where thou hast laid Him, and I will take Him away. Jesus saith unto her, Mary: and she turned herself and said unto Him, Rabboni, that is to say, Master. Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not now; for I am not yet ascended to my Father; but go directly to my brethren, and tell them, "I am to ascend to my Father and your Father, and to my God and your God." So Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples, that she had seen the Lord, and that He had said these things to her.

and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had had cut out in the rock; and when he had rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, he went away: but there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary sitting over against the sepulchre. Now the next day after the preparation, the chief priests and pharisees went together to Pilate, saying, Sir, we remember that this impostor, when He was alive, said, After three days I will rise again: order therefore the sepulchre to be secured till the third day, least his disciples should come and steal Him away, and tell the people, He is risen from the dead: and so the last error will be worse than the first. But Pilate said to them, Ye have a guard of your own, go and make it as secure as ye will. So they went and made the sepulchre safe, sealing the stone, and setting a guard to watch it.

And the evening being now come, (because it was the preparation, or the day before the sabbath,) Joseph of Arimathea, an honorable counsellor, who also was expecting the kingdom of God, came and went in boldly to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. But Pilate wondered that He was dead already, and therefore calling for the centurion he asked him if He had been dead any time: read more.
and when he heard it from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph. And he bought fine linen, and took Him down, and wrapped Him in the linen, and laid Him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock; and rolled a stone to the door of the sepulchre. And Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of Joses observed where He was laid.

And behold there was a man of Arimathea, a city of the Jews, named Joseph, a counsellor, a good man and a just: (who had not consented to their counsel nor their action; and who was also himself in expectation of the kingdom of God:) he came to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus: read more.
and he took it down and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre hewn in stone, where no one had ever yet been laid. Now that day was the preparation, and the sabbath was coming on: wherefore the women, that came with Him from Galilee, followed Joseph, and saw the sepulchre, and how the body was laid: but returned and prepared spices and perfumes; and then rested on the sabbath-day, according to the commandment.

The Jews therefore, that the bodies might not remain upon the cross on the sabbath-day, because it was now the preparation, (for that sabbath-day was an high-day) desired Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. So the soldiers came, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other that was crucified with Him. But coming to Jesus, as they saw He was dead already, they did not break his legs: read more.
but one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and immediately there came out blood and water. And he that saw it testifieth it, and his testimony is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye may believe. For these things were done, that the scripture might be fulfilled, Not a bone of Him shall be broken. And again another scripture saith, They shall look on Him whom they have pierced. And after these things Joseph of Arimathea (who was a disciple of Jesus, but a concealed one for fear of the Jews) petitioned Pilate, that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate gave him leave: he came therefore and took away the body of Jesus. And there came also Nicodemus (who at first came to Jesus by night) and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes about an hundred pound weight. So they took the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen cloths, with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury. Now there was a garden in the place where He was crucified; and in the garden a new sepulchre, in which none had ever yet been laid. There therefore they laid Jesus, because of the Jews preparation-day; for the sepulchre was near.

And while they were in perplexity about it, behold, two men stood by them in shining robes. And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the ground, the men said unto them, Why do ye seek the living among the dead? He is not here, He is risen: remember how He spake to you, when He was yet in Galilee, saying, the Son of man must be delivered into the hands of wicked men, and be crucified; and the third day rise again. And they remembered his words, and returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things to the eleven apostles, and to all the rest. Now it was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them, that told these things to the apostles:

Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene cometh early in the morning, while it was yet dark, to the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre. She therefore runneth and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid Him.
