Those who trust in their wealth, and their many riches, boast themselves. A man cannot at all redeem a brother, nor give to God a ransom for him,

To the Chief Musician. A contemplation. A Psalm of David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said to him, David has come to the house of Ahimelech. Why do you boast yourself in evil, O mighty man? The mercy of God endures forever.

But now you boast in your presumptions. All such boasting is evil.

yea, he shall yet live forever; he shall never see corruption.

They gush; they speak impudent things; all the workers of iniquity speak proudly.

And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and became a sharer of the root and the fatness of the olive tree with them, do not boast against the branches. But if you boast, it is not you that bears the root, but the root bears you. You will say then, The branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in. read more.
Well, because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. Do not be high-minded, but fear. For if God did not spare the natural branches, fear lest He also may not spare you either!

For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel; not in wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect. For the preaching of the cross is foolishness to those being lost, but to us being saved, it is the power of God. For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and I will set aside the understanding of the perceiving ones." read more.
Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the lawyer of this world? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world by wisdom did not know God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save those who believe. For the Jews ask for a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block, and to the Greeks foolishness. But to them, the called-out ones, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. Because the foolish thing of God is wiser than men, and the weak thing of God is stronger than men. For you see your calling, brothers, that not many wise men according to the flesh are called, not many mighty, not many noble. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; and God has chosen the base things of the world, and things which are despised, and things which are not, in order to bring to nothing things that are; so that no flesh should glory in His presence. But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who of God is made to us wisdom and righteousness and sanctification and redemption; so that, according as it is written, "He who glories, let him glory in the Lord."

And these things, brothers, I have in a figure transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes, so that you might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, so that no one of you may be puffed up against one another. For who makes you to differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?

For we do not dare to rank or compare ourselves with some of the ones commending themselves. But they, measuring themselves among themselves, and comparing themselves to themselves, are not perceptive. But we will not boast beyond measure, but according to the measure of the rule which the God of measure distributed to us, to reach even to you. For we do not overstretch ourselves as though not reaching to you. For we also came to you in the gospel of Christ; read more.
not boasting beyond measure in the labors of others, but having hope that the growing faith among you will be increased according to our rule, to overflowing; to preach the gospel in that beyond you, and not to boast in another's rule in things made ready. But he who glories, let him glory in the Lord. For not he who commends himself is approved, but he whom the Lord commends.

For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

yea, he shall yet live forever; he shall never see corruption. For he sees wise men die; likewise the fool and the animal-like ones perish, and leave their wealth to others. Their inward thought is that their houses shall go on forever, and their dwelling-places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names. But man, though high in honor, does not remain; he is like the animals that perish. This way of theirs is their foolishness; yet their followers delight in their sayings. Selah.

The crown of the wise is their riches of wisdom; the foolishness of fools is folly.

I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death. O Death, where are your plagues; O Grave, where is your ruin! Repentance shall be hidden from My eyes.

If there is laid on him a sum of money, then he shall give for the ransom of his life whatever is laid upon him.

When you count the sons of Israel, of those who are to be counted, then they shall each man give a ransom for his soul to Jehovah when you number them, so that there may be no plague among them when you number them.

For beware wrath, that He not lure you with His scorn; then a great ransom cannot turn you aside.

A man cannot at all redeem a brother, nor give to God a ransom for him, for the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceases forever,

He will not take any ransom; nor will he be willing if you multiply the gifts.

The ransom of a man's life is his riches, but the poor does not hear rebuke.

Your tongue devises evil, like a sharp razor, working deceitfully. You love evil more than good, and lying more than to speak righteousness. Selah. read more.
You love all devouring words, O deceitful tongue. God will likewise destroy you forever; He shall take you away, and pluck you out of your tent, and root you out of the land of the living. Selah. And the righteous shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him, saying, Behold, the man who did not make God his strength, but trusted in the abundance of his riches, he was strong in his wickedness.

Then Jesus said to His disciples, Truly I say to you that a rich man will with great difficulty enter into the kingdom of Heaven. And again I say to you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. When His disciples heard, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? read more.
But Jesus looked on them and said to them, With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.

And Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, How hardly those having riches will enter into the kingdom of God! And the disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus answering again said to them, Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich one to enter into the kingdom of God. read more.
