And Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor questioned Him, saying, "Art Thou the King of the Jews?" And Jesus said to him, "You say it."

And, having spent among them not more than eight or ten days, he went down to Caesarea; and, on the morrow, sitting on the judgment-seat, he ordered Paul to be brought.


Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar??ontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the country of Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,


Then the Pharisees, going, took counsel how they might ensnare Him in speech. And they send to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that Thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, and carest not for any one; for Thou dost not look into the face of men: tell us, therefore, what thinkest Thou: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar or not?" read more.
But Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said, "Why are ye tempting Me, hypocrites? Show me the tribute-coin." And they brought Him a denary. And He saith to them, "Whose is this image and inscription?" They say to Him, "Caesar's." Then saith He to them, "Render, therefore, the things of Caesar to Caesar, and the things of God to God." And, hearing it, they wondered: and, leaving Him, they went away.

And they send to Him some of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, that they may entrap Him in speech. And, coming, they say to Him, "Teacher, we know that Thou art true, and carest not for any one; for Thou lookest not into the face of men, but in truth teachest the way of God. Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not? Shall we give, or shall we not give?" But He, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, "Why are ye tempting Me? Bring Me a denary, that I may see it." read more.
And they brought it. And He saith to them, "Whose is this image and inscription?" And they said to Him, "Caesar's." And Jesus said to them, "Render to Caesar the things of Caesar, and to God the things of God." And they wondered exceedingly at Him.


After this arose Judas, the Galilean, in the days of the enrollment, and drew away people after him; he also perished; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered abroad.

And there were some present, at that very season, who reported to Him concerning the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate mingled with their sacrifices.


And there came also tax-collectors to be immersed, and they said to him, "Teacher, what shall we do?"

And, after these things, He went forth, and beheld a tax-collector, Levi by name, sitting at the tax-office; and He said to him, "Follow Me."


Show me the tribute-coin." And they brought Him a denary. And He saith to them, "Whose is this image and inscription?"


And all were going to be enrolled, each to his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David; to enrol himself with Mary his betrothed wife, being with child.


And they began to accuse Him, saying, "We found This Man perverting our nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that He Himself is Christ a King!"


(This enrolment first was made, when Quirinius was governor of Syria).


Now it came to pass, in those days, that there went forth a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the inhabited earth should be enrolled.
