Then Jesus was guided by the Spirit into the desert, to be tempted by the devil.

Then the devil took Him into the holy city, and had Him stand on the tip-top turret of the temple, and said to Him, "If you are God's Son, throw yourself down, for the Scripture says: "'He will give His angels directions about you, And they will bear you up on their hands, so you will never strike your foot against a stone.'" Jesus said to him, "Again the Scripture says, 'You must not try the Lord your God.'" Again the devil took him up on a very high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world, and their splendor, and said to Him, "Every bit of this I will give to you, if you will fall on your knees and worship me." Then Jesus said to him, "Be gone, Satan! For the Scripture says, 'You must worship the Lord your God, and serve Him alone.'" Then the devil left Him, and angels came and continued to wait upon Him.
