we are confident, indeed, and would be pleased rather to depart from the body, and to dwell with the Lord.

For, though I am absent in flesh, yet I am present with you in spirit, rejoicing to behold your order, and the firmness of your faith in Christ.

You have heard that I said to you, I am going away, and am coming again to you. If you loved me, you would rejoice, because I go to the Father; for my Father is greater than I.

For I, in deed, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have already, as if I were present, judged him that has so done this thing;

So, then, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

For this reason we also endeavor, whether we remain in the body or depart from it, to be acceptable to him.

Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of the Christ, that, whether I come and see you, or be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one soul striving together for the faith of the gospel,

Let such a one conclude thus that such as we are in word, by letters, while absent, such also will we be in deed, when present.
