And God hath placed you accordingly in the church, first apostles, secondly prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miraculous powers, then gifts of healing, helps, governments, and various kinds of tongues.

For the ministration of this service not only supplieth the wants of the saints, but aboundeth also, through many thanksgivings, to the glory of God.

I recommend to you Phebe, our sister, who is a servant of the church in Cenchrea: that ye receive her in the Lord as becometh saints, and assist her in whatever affair she may have need of you; for she also hath been a helper of many others, as well as of myself.

As I exhorted thee to stay at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge certain persons not to teach other doctrine, nor attend to fables and endless genealogies, which occasion debates, rather than pious edification in the faith:

When I shall send Artemas to thee, or Tychicus, endeavour to come to me to Nicopolis: for there I have determined to winter. For this cause I left thee in Crete, that thou mightest set in order what remained, and ordain elders in every city as I directed thee:

and make all men to see the communication of the mystery, which from the ages past hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ;

But thanks be to God, who put the same concern for you into the heart of Titus: for he not only complied with the exhortation, but being more forward he went to you of his own accord. And we have sent along with him the brother, whose praise in the gospel is spread through all the churches:read more.
(and not only so, but he was also chosen by the churches to accompany us with this grace, which is administered by us for the glory of the same Lord, and to shew your readiness of mind:) hereby taking care that no one might blame us in the disposal of this large sum which is administered by us: looking to things that are right not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men. And we have sent with them another brother of ours, whom we have often proved diligent in many things, and now I doubt not much more on account of his great confidence in you. If then there be any inquiry about Titus, he is my collegue and fellow-laborer among you: and if our brethren be inquired after, they are the messengers of the churches, and the glory of Christ. Therefore shew to them, and before the churches, the proof of your love, and the justness of our boasting concerning you.

Now in those days, as the number of disciples increased, there rose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily distribution. So the twelve called the multitude of the disciples to them and said, It is not seemly that we should leave the word of God and attend at tables. Wherefore, brethren, look out from among you seven men of good character, full of the holy Spirit, and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this matter:read more.
but we will constantly attend to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. And the advice pleased the whole multitude, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith, and of the holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus a proselyte of Antioch. These they set before the apostles; who, when they had prayed, laid their hands upon them. And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples in Jerusalem was greatly multiplied; and a great number of the priests became obedient to the faith.
