So human pride will be brought low,
and the loftiness of men will be humbled;
the Lord alone will be exalted on that day. The idols will vanish completely.
For rebellion is like the sin of divination,
and defiance is like wickedness and idolatry.
Because you have rejected the word of the Lord,
He has rejected you as king.
But Yahweh, the God of their ancestors sent word against them by the hand of His messengers, sending them time and time again, for He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place. But they kept ridiculing God’s messengers, despising His words, and scoffing at His prophets, until the Lord’s wrath was so stirred up against His people that there was no remedy.
“When I choose a time,
I will judge fairly. When the earth and all its inhabitants shake,
I am the One who steadies its pillars.Selah I say to the boastful, ‘Do not boast,’
and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up your horn.
I will bring disaster on the world,
and their own iniquity, on the wicked.
I will put an end to the pride of the arrogant
and humiliate the insolence of tyrants.
We have heard of Moab’s pride,
great pride, indeed—
his insolence, arrogance, pride,
and haughty heart. I know his outburst.
This is the Lord’s declaration.
It is empty.
His boast is empty.
Look, I am against you, you arrogant one—
this is the declaration of
the Lord God of Hosts—
because your day has come,
the time when I will punish you. The arrogant will stumble and fall
with no one to pick him up.
I will set fire to his cities,
and it will consume everything around him.”
I will pour out My wrath on you very soon;
I will exhaust My anger against you
and judge you according to your ways.
I will punish you for all your detestable practices. I will not look on you with pity or spare you.
I will punish you for your ways
and for your detestable practices within you.
Then you will know
that it is I, Yahweh, who strikes. Look, the day is coming!
Doom has gone out.
The rod has blossomed;
arrogance has bloomed.
But when his heart was exalted and his spirit became arrogant, he was deposed from his royal throne and his glory was taken from him.
Yahweh will pass through the sea of distress
and strike the waves of the sea;
all the depths of the Nile will dry up.
The pride of Assyria will be brought down,
and the scepter of Egypt will come to an end.
