"Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.

Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.

So let no one boast in men. For all things are yours,

But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth.

As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.

Thus says the LORD: "Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. Like clouds and wind without rain is a man who boasts of a gift he does not give.

These are grumblers, malcontents, following their own sinful desires; they are loud-mouthed boasters, showing favoritism to gain advantage.
