Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin.
For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bond of iniquity."
and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.
They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved.
We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,

For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.
Therefore it says, "When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men."
You ascended on high, leading a host of captives in your train and receiving gifts among men, even among the rebellious, that the LORD God may dwell there.
