His disciples said to him: If the relation of man and wife be such, it is not good to marry.
But I would have you to be without anxiety. The unmarried man is concerned about the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord:
Now concerning the things of which you wrote to me, it is good for a man not to touch a woman.
for I could wish that all men were even as I am myself. But each one has his own gift from God, one in this way, another in that.
I think, then, that this is good for the present affliction that it is good for a man to be as he is.

The wife is bound as long as her husband lives; but if her husband die, she is free to be married to whom she will, only in the Lord. But she is happier, in my judgment, if she remains as she is; and I think that I have, also, the Spirit of God.
Now concerning the things of which you wrote to me, it is good for a man not to touch a woman. But, to avoid lewd practices, let every man have his own wife, and every woman her own husband. The wife has not power over her own body, but the husband; likewise, also, the husband has not power over his own body, but the wife. But with respect to virgins, I have no commandment of the Lord: yet I give my judgment as one that is enabled, by the mercy of the Lord, to be faithful. I think, then, that this is good for the present affliction that it is good for a man to be as he is.
