But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned.

But Elymas the magician (for that is the meaning of his name) was opposing them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith.

As he went away from there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press him hard, and to provoke him to speak of many things, lying in wait for him, to catch at something he might say.
Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test him they asked him to show them a sign from heaven.
Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how to entangle him in his talk.
And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw him eating with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, "Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?"
The Pharisees and the scribes asked him, "Why do your disciples not live according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with impure hands?"
But some of the Pharisees said, "Why are you doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath?"
And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, rebuke your disciples."
The Pharisees then said to him, "You are bearing witness of yourself; your testimony is not true."
And he fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" And he said, "Who are you, Lord?" And he said, "I am Jesus whom you are persecuting,
So if God gave them the same gift as he gave us, who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could oppose God?"
