And the field, and the cave that is in it, were made sure to Abraham for a possession of a burying place by the sons of Heth.

Now this was [the custom] in former time in Israel concerning redeeming and concerning exchanging, to confirm all things: A man drew off his shoe, and gave it to his neighbor. But when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and to Ai, they also worked shrewdly, and went and made as if they had been ambassadors, and took old sacks upon their donkeys, and wine-skins, old and torn and bound up, and old and patched shoes upon their feet, and old garments upon them, and all the bread of their provision was dry and became moldy. read more.

Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee. For to thee, and to thy seed, I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath that I swore to Abraham thy father.

And they rose up promptly in the morning, and swore one to another. And Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.

And Joshua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them to let them live, and the rulers of the congregation swore to them.

This we will do to them, and let them live, lest wrath be upon us because of the oath which we swore to them.

And Abraham reproved Abimelech because of the well of water which Abimelech's servants had taken away violently. And Abimelech said, I know not who has done this thing, neither did thou tell me, nor yet did I hear of it, but today. And Abraham took sheep and oxen, and gave them to Abimelech. And Abraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves. And Abimelech said to Abraham, What do these seven ewe lambs mean which thou have set by themselves? And he said, These seven ewe lambs thou shall take from my hand, that it may be a witness to me, that I have dug this well.

Fulfill the week of this one, and we will give thee the other also for the service which thou shall serve with me yet seven other years. And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week. And he said, What shall I give thee? And Jacob said, Thou shall not give me anything. If thou will do this thing for me, I will again feed thy flock and keep it. I will pass through all thy flock today, removing from there every speckled and spotted one, and every black one among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats, and [of such] shall be my hire. So shall my righteousness answer for me after this, when thou shall come concerning my hire that is before thee. Every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and black among the sheep, that [is] with me, shall be con read more.
And Laban said, Behold, O that it might be according to thy word.

And your father has deceived me, and changed my wages ten times, but God did not allow him to hurt me.

And Jacob took for him rods of fresh poplar, and of the almond and of the plane tree, and peeled white streaks in them, and made the white which was in the rods appear. And he set the rods which he had peeled before the flocks in the gutters in the watering troughs where the flocks came to drink. And they conceived when they came to drink. And the flocks conceived before the rods, and the flocks brought forth ringstreaked, speckled, and spotted. read more.
And Jacob separated the lambs, and set the faces of the flocks toward the ringstreaked and all the black in the flock of Laban. And he put his own herds apart, and did not put them near Laban's flock. So the weaker were Laban's, and the stronger Jacob's. And the man increased exceedingly, and had large flocks, and maid-servants and men-servants, and camels and donkeys.

And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him. And he went in to her. And Laban gave Zilpah his handmaid to his daughter Leah for a handmaid. And it came to pass in the morning that, behold, it was Leah. And he said to Laban, What is this thou have done to me? Did I not serve with thee for Rachel? Why then have thou beguiled me? read more.
And Laban said, It is not so done in our place, to give the younger before the firstborn. Fulfill the week of this one, and we will give thee the other also for the service which thou shall serve with me yet seven other years.

This heap is witness, and the pillar is witness, that I will not pass over this heap to thee, and that thou shall not pass over this heap and this pillar to me, for harm. The God of Abraham, and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge between us. And Jacob swore by the fear of his father Isaac. And Jacob offered a sacrifice on the mountain, and called his brothers to eat bread. And they ate bread, and tarried all night on the mountain.

And he said, Appoint for me thy wages, and I will give it. And he said to him, Thou know how I have served thee, and how thy cattle have fared with me. For it was little which thou had before I came, and it has increased to a multitude, and LORD has blessed thee wherever I turned. And now when shall I provide for my own house also? read more.

And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father-in-law, and said to him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return to my brothers who are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace.
