"but if he will not heed the church, let him be to you as a Gentile or a tax-gatherer.

This his parents said because they were afraid of the Jews, for the Jews had already agreed that if any one should confess that he was the Christ, he should be expelled from the synagogue.

But what I wrote was that you were not to associate with any so-called brother who is immoral, or avaricious, or idolatrous, or abusive, or a drunkard, or an extortioner. No, with such persons do not even sit at table.
If any man does not give heed to what I have said in this letter, mark that man; do not associate with him, so as to make him feel ashamed;
