Take heed not to do your alms before men, to be seen of them; otherwise, ye have no reward of your Father who is in the heavens. that thine alms may be in secret; and thy Father who sees in secret, he shall reward thee openly.
And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, who love to go in long clothing and love the salutations in the marketplaces and the first chairs in the synagogues and the first seats at the suppers, which devour widows' houses and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater judgment.
