For I have come to set a man at variance with his father, and the daughter with her mother, and the daughter-in-law with her mother-in-law:

Do you think that I have come to give peace in the earth? I toll you, No; but rather dissension. For from this time forth there shall be five in one house at variance, three with two, and two with three.

And there was much murmuring among the multitudes concerning him. Some said: He is a good man. Others said: No; but he deceives the multitude.

Therefore, many of the multitude, when they had heard this word, said: This is, in truth, the prophet. Others said: This is the Christ. But others said: Does the Christ come out of Galilee? Has not the scripture said that the Christ comes from the posterity of David, and from Bethlehem, the town where David was?read more.
So there was a division among the multitude because of him.

Then some of the Pharisees said: This man is not from God, for he keeps not the sabbath. Others said: How can a man that is a sinner do such signs? And there was a division among them?

Again, therefore, there was a division among the Jews, on account of these words.

But the multitude of the city were divided; and some were with the Jews, and some with the apostles.

Therefore, after Paul and Barnabas had no little dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain others from among them, should go up to Jerusalem, to the apostles and elders, about this question.

And after there had been much disputing, Peter arose, and said to them: Brethren, you know that, at the beginning, God made choice among us, that, by my mouth, the Gentiles should hear the word of the Gospel, and believe.

And when he had said this, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the multitude was divided. For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection; neither angel nor spirit: but the Pharisees acknowledge both. And there arose a great clamor. And when there arose a great dissension, the officer, fearing that Paul would be torn to pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring him into the fortress.

Now, I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no schisms among you, but that you be perfectly united in the same mind, and in the same judgment.

for you are yet carnal. For, since envy and strife and divisions are among you, are you not carnal, and do you not walk as men? For when one says, I am of Paul, and another, I of Apollos, are you not carnal?

Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they are written for the instruction of us, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. "Wherefore, let him that thinks he stands, take heed lest he foil. No trial has come upon you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tried more than you are able to bear; but he will, with the trial, make a way to escape, so that you be able to bear up under it.

For, in the first place, when you come together in the church, I hear that there are schisms among you, and I partly believe it: for there must be sects among you, that the approved may be made known among you.

Now, I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no schisms among you, but that you be perfectly united in the same mind, and in the same judgment. For it has been made known to me concerning you, my brethren, by the family of Cloe, that there are contentions among you. I mean this: that each one of you says, I am of Paul, and I of Apollos, and I of Cephas, and I of Christ.read more.
Is the Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? or were you immersed into the name of Paul? I thank God that I immersed none of you, but Crispus and Gaius; that no one may say that I immersed into my own name. I did, in deed, immerse the household of Stephanus; besides, I know not whether I immersed any other. For Christ sent me not to immerse, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of speech, lest the cross of the Christ should be deprived of its power.

He that is not with me, is against me; and he that gathers not with me, scatters.

And certain men came down from Judea, and taught the brethren, saying: Unless you be circumcised, according to the custom of Moses, you can not be saved. Therefore, after Paul and Barnabas had no little dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain others from among them, should go up to Jerusalem, to the apostles and elders, about this question.

And, after some days, Paul said to Barnabas, let us return, and visit our brethren in every city in which we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do. And Barnabas determined to take with him John, whose surname was Mark. But Paul did not think it proper to take with them him who had departed from them from Pamphylia, and did not go with them to the work.read more.
There was, therefore, a sharp contention, so that they separated from each other: and Barnabas took Mark, and sailed to Cyprus. But Paul chose Silas, and departed, having been commended to the grace of God by the brethren. And he passed through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.

For we have found this man a pest and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.

Now I beseech you, brethren, to mark those who make divisions and cause offenses in opposition to the teaching which you have learned, and avoid them.

As, on going into Macedonia, I besought you to remain in Ephesus, that you might charge some that they teach no other thing, nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which produce disputes rather than godly edification, which is in faith;
