For I came to set a man at odds against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.

Do you think that I have come to give peace in the earth? I tell you, no, but rather division. For from now on, there will be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.

There was much murmuring among the crowds concerning him. Some said, "He is a good man." Others said, "Not so, but he leads the crowd astray."

Some of the crowd therefore, when they heard these words, said, "This is truly the Prophet." Others said, "This is the Messiah." But some said, "What, does the Messiah come out of Galilee? Hasn't the Scripture said that the Messiah comes of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?"read more.
So there arose a division in the crowd because of him.

Some therefore of the Pharisees said, "This man is not from God, because he does not keep the Sabbath." Others said, "How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?" There was division among them.

Therefore a division arose again among the Jewish people because of these words.

But the population of the city was divided. Some sided with the Jews, and some with the apostles.

Therefore when Paul and Barnabas had no small discord and discussion with them, they appointed Paul and Barnabas, and some others of them, to go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and elders about this question.

When there had been much discussion, Peter rose up and said to them, "Brothers, you know that a good while ago God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the nations should hear the word of the Good News, and believe.

When he had said this, an argument arose between the Pharisees and Sadducees, and the assembly was divided. For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, nor angel, nor spirit; but the Pharisees confess all of these. A great clamor arose, and some of the scribes of the Pharisees part stood up, and contended, saying, "We find no evil in this man. What if a spirit spoke to him, or an angel?"read more.
When a great argument arose, the commanding officer, fearing that Paul would be torn in pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down and take him by force from among them, and bring him into the barracks.

Now I beg you, brothers, through the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfected together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

for you are still fleshly. For insofar as there is jealousy, strife, and factions among you, are you not fleshly, and do you not walk in the ways of men? For when one says, "I follow Paul," and another, "I follow Apollos," are you not men?

A perverse man stirs up strife. A whisperer separates close friends.

I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war.

those who devise mischief in their hearts. They continually gather themselves together for war.

A wrathful man stirs up contention, but one who is slow to anger appeases strife.

He who loves disobedience loves strife. One who builds a high gate seeks destruction.

A fool's lips come into strife, and his mouth invites beatings.

As coals are to hot embers, and wood to fire, so is a contentious man to kindling strife.

Why do you show me iniquity, and look at perversity? For destruction and violence are before me. There is strife, and contention rises up.

Now I beg you, brothers, through the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfected together in the same mind and in the same judgment. Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized into the name of Paul? I thank God that I baptized none of you, except Crispus and Gaius, so that no one should say that you had been baptized into my own name. Some men came down from Judea and taught the brothers, "Unless you are circumcised after the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved." After some days Paul said to Barnabas, "Let us return now and visit our brothers in every city in which we proclaimed the word of the Lord, to see how they are doing." Barnabas planned to take John, who was called Mark, with them also. But Paul did not think that it was a good idea to take with them someone who had withdrawn from them in Pamphylia, and did not go with them to do the work.read more.
Then the contention grew so sharp that they separated from each other. Barnabas took Mark with him, and sailed away to Cyprus, but Paul chose Silas, and went out, being commended by the brothers to the grace of the Lord. He went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.

For we have found this man to be a plague, an instigator of insurrections among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.

Now I beg you, brothers, look out for those who are causing the divisions and occasions of stumbling, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and turn away from them.

As I urged you when I was going into Macedonia, stay at Ephesus that you might command certain men not to teach a different doctrine, neither to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which cause speculation, rather than God's stewardship, which is in faith?
