And Isaac said to Jacob, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou art my very son Esau, or not.
But strong food belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
And they sent the coat of many colors, and they brought it to their father; and said, This have we found: know now whether it is thy son's coat or not.
And see, if it goeth up by the way of his own coast to Beth-shemesh, then he hath done us this great evil: but if not, then we shall know, that it is not his hand that smote us; it was a chance that happened to us.
And the Gileadites took the passages of Jordan before the Ephraimites: and it was so, that when those Ephraimites who had escaped, said, Let me go over; that the men of Gilead said to him, Art thou an Ephraimite? If he said, No; Then said they to him, Say now Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan. And there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.
Ye shall know them by their fruits: Do men gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles:
Either make the tree good, and its fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and its fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by its fruit.
And Moses said, by this ye shall know that the LORD hath sent me to do all these works: for I have not done them of my own mind. If these men shall die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then the LORD hath not sent me. But if the LORD shall make a new thing, and the earth shall open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain to them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD.
In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
Which, when it was full, they drew to the shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast away the bad.
For every tree is known by its own fruit: for from thorns men do not gather figs, nor from a bramble bush do they gather grapes.
By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
But whoever keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: by this we know that we are in him.
By this ye know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ hath come in the flesh, is from God:
We are of God. He that knoweth God, heareth us; he that is not of God, heareth not us. By this we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
